When I look back over all the years I've had my parrots, I think about my initial fears (much as everyone has noted here, will they pick ME) and I now smile, because they all picked their favorite family member despite what I had to say or wish or even TRY to control on the matter, and then they picked again, and yet again. Parrots sometimes change their allegiances when the wind changes or the mood strikes. I've been the favorite, then not so. My Grey seems to change his favorite on a daily basis. Every morning, I open his cage and ask if he's mine today or not. LOL When I am, he tumbles head first into my arms. When I'm not, he fluffs those head feathers and pushes my hand away with his beak and he gives his love to his other favorite in our family. Only the Lovebird is steadfast in his loyalties to me.
Today, I worry incessantly about theft. I couldn't bear to lose any of them. They're all microchipped (and I swear as soon as GPS is available I am getting it to track them!); and we have a big, bad alarm system on the house especially for them (because insurance could never replace them). I worry too about bird germs. I'm terrified to go to a bird mart or show and bring home some germ to them (a friend lost her Grey shortly after bringing him a toy home from a bird mart). Lots to worry about when one has birds.
