Mana the manic female galah; yet to be named male corella
Once upon a time (about 7 years ago), I bought a little conure who ended up bonding with my partner instead of me. But my partner at the time was not a serious partner and did not live with me. The bird ended up developing quite a dislike for me!! She was only happy when he was around. I ended up having to rehome her (my partner was not a bird person what so ever). She found a lovely home who had another bird of the same species and they bonded very well.

Anyhoo... I'm scared of this happening again. However I know if this bird bonds with my partner, we will keep him/her for my partner (he is a big softy after all and will love having a "birdybro"). Great... but where does that leave me? LOL
So I am considering a second large bird in the event this one prefers my partner to the same extent as that previous conure. What is a species that would work well with a corella?

Galah
Eclectus
Hahns Macaw
Alexandrine

Any expert opinions here of which if any is most suitable? I am thinking a galah would be, however it might be nice to have something a little different.

Another Corella or a Galah would be your best bet.

Yeah I think I might get a galah if it happens :) lets hope it doesnt happen though xD

Our red belly has bonded well to both of us. They are known for being pretty social. We did make a huge effort to both play with him and work on training him equally. That said, I frequently check out the local rescues and there are several instances of birds described as only liking people of one sex. You could probably do a huge favor to a bird who needs a loving home while ensuring it loves you best.

Indeed! Unfortunately while scanning the rescues constantly I have discovered that mostly male oriented birds are surrendered! LOL
I have been waiting over a year for a female oriented galah to pop up :) Its the biggest reason the cockatoos are rehomed here it seems, getting attached to a non-interested opposite sex party. My partner would adore it if the bird became attached to him :) So I am lucky in that regard, I dont have to worry about rehoming a bird. But I cant lie, it would sting! lol :) But my first choice will definitely be for a rescue bird with a preference for ladies. I think they might get snapped up though. lol thats the only reason I can think they arent common.

Where are you living? Im in Calgary Alberta and I know of a rescue with a couple of birds that prefer the ladies.

I live in Australia :) We have the parrot rescue centre Parrot Rescue Centre | Caring for Parrots in Australia

And these are the birds they currently have... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.161078143909628.41548.143107929039983 quite a few corellas but all are only friendly with males, or need to be rehomed to an aviary. :(
I have been keeping an eye out :)

I put my name down with a breeder... she is handrearing two bubs at the moment, hopefully there is a male there for me but even that is no guarantee especially if you look at the rehomes for the rescue, most are males and prefer male owners. But we will see how we go, if the corella ends up loving my partner instead, I might put my name down with the rescue for a bird that likes ladies. :)

By choosing a bird to get along with your existing bird is by a long shot. They're like people, you can not expect them to like one another even though they're within their own species. Just check out on the other types that they have and you might be surprised on one that snuggles up to you that you didn't think of the specie in the first place.

There's not many bird rescue places here in Australia is there?
Like others have recommended I'd also say a Galah or Corella, but bare in mind the have been known to crossbreed that's where we get the Apricot Galahs from so if you don't want babies the same sex as your Corella.

Both of mine (Corella and Galah) are friendly with me (I'm a female)... The Corellas previous owner was male, the Galah's was a female... :p

I only know of the Parrot Rescue Centre... I think there are some private rescuers (or maybe hoarders ) around...

Both of my cockatoos are females...

One of our Cockatoo is a male while the other one is a female. LSC too is the female, Dixie, she came from a married couple with kids and as far as I know she prefers the husband. U2 is the male, Java, his previous home was also a married couple, but he prefers females as he would attack her husband. I don't have any issue with either one of them here. It takes awhile to build a bond with both of them, they have their favorite person but tolerable to either one of us. Willie the B&G Macaw is the only one here that prefers just me and no one else. We've tried for years and my partner just didn't want to push the envelope. So we left it just the way it is. You just never know as the birds can turn around and love someone else in the opposite sex in a different home.
