Whining? High growl? Or something else?

I’m still fairly new here! My 4mo old eckie has (for the past few days) have been occasionally making this sort of high growl whine noise. It doesn’t sound pleasant but he does it so often even when nothing is happening. When I get close he does it so I back off a little bit because I think he is irritated. But then he lets out a honk like he wants attention. I’m not quite sure what these vocalizations mean. I know he does it if you get too close when he is eating. But even when we are just around he does it. And he does an occasional Squawk that startles us. If anyone can tell me what these sounds can mean, it would be very appreciated!

Sometimes I make my bird’s noises back at him and see what he does.

But I probably wouldn’t make an angry noise at my bird.

Since it’s followed with a loud honk, maybe it means,”I am upset or unhappy about something.”

Are you familiar with dogs? Think about what that noise would mean coming from a dog. It’s amazing how similar animal sounds are across completely different animal types. For example, Quaker parakeets purr like cats when they’re happy, and make a barking ack ack noise to call attention to intruders.
