Whistling to my Tiel

Hi guys!

My baby is brand new home so very shy/scared etc. still.

However, I can do a very good bird impersonation and when I do it, he seems to get excited and walks along his perch, bobbing head etc. This morning he even started chirping himself.

But once I stop, he goes back to be shy etc.


Do you think I should keep doing this or should I stop? I thought he might think it's another bird/female bird and might get hormonal or something?

Are you sure it's a male? Head bobbing is a male thing, but girls do it sometimes too.

We believe so, we were told that by the pet shop. However not certain. How come? It wasn't the head bobbing that all birds tend to do. It was more subtle. He just looked really intrigued and interested

It's kind of scary for a bird to go from a group of birds and there's constant chatter or companionship to being alone in a new and unfamiliar place. It's not good when the forest goes quiet.


It would probably be a good idea to put some background noise on to perhaps make him feel more comfortable and continue to talk or whistle to him (or her) if he enjoys it. It can be a great way to bond.
