Besides the unconditional love I feel for my pets regardless of species... I've always been fascinated by the rare, and have always been able to find what I was looking for sooner or later. If you want something specific, just keep searching and don't give up.
I've had a Slender Billed Corella, Hooded Parakeet, Cuban Amazon, Ruppell's Parrot (this month)... Believe it or not, the most difficult bird to find (after searching for a year) was Raven my Bronze Winged Pionus. They're not rare, but uncommon and just not a big demand for them. The one I had who died 8 years ago was not easy to find either.
Don't give up if your heart is set on another Broto esp. Canary Wing. I know that though some species are rare, the truth is, the US probably has more species than any other country (except some places in Europe?) and there are many breeders who do sell babies into the pet trade even if they probably should be held back for propagation purposes. You can find most anything out there (and still from a reputable source) if you search tenaciously enough, trust me!
My vet used to have a Gray Cheek Parakeet (Broto) who lived up until recently. They USED TO BE EXTREMELY COMMON when they were being imported. Even in the 90's they were a 'dime a dozen'. My vet said that NOW, THEY ARE SO RARE (since they don't breed well in captivity) that this once very common and inexpensive bird is about $1,500 from a breeder he knows!
Maybe the Canary Wing (and all Brotogeris species) are hard to breed in captivity, which would explain why there are hard to find?
