Why is Chipper tossing food out of his bowl?

My first bird was a parakeet named Buddy (passed away November 8, 2012). My newest friend is a parakeet named Chipper.
Lately, Chipper has been getting really clingy. He's very friendly (though has an attitude sometimes!) And he's been wanting to come out of his cage a lot more. He climbs around back and forth on the bars by the door, and he'll start chirping and squawking. That's how I know he wants to come out. So I open the door and he jumps right on my hand. I take him out of his cage a lot anyway and pet him and hold him. Now whenever I leave the room, he starts squawking!

Well, getting back to my question...lately he has also been playing with his food. He keeps tossing seeds out of his bowl. I know he's doing it on purpose. At first, I thought maybe he was just picking out what he wanted and tossing the rest out. But now I think he's trying to tell me something. Maybe he doesn't like his food? Or maybe he has some kind of birdie tempter tantrum?

He is eating (I see broken seed shells in his bowl) and he's doing fine. But I'm just wondering why he's playing with his food! He's wasting a lot.

Do any of your birds do this, and do you have any idea why Chipper might be doing that?

He's picking out the things he likes & throwing the rest away.....my birds do it when they get mixed seed...they pick out what they want & either leave the rest or get it out of their way so they can see what else is in the bowl.....

Unless you determine which seeds he likes & feed just those, there's no way I know of to get him to eat everything.....

all my birds do it especially my lovebird River Song they pick out certain things and just throw them everywhere!

Birds are like kids, and we all know what they can do with food ;). Chipper is just playful, throwing and playing with the seed he doesn't like. My budgies love dumping their colorful pellets into the water. Everyday it's a new color

Tango does the same thing. I feed him pellets in the morning and he gets seeds and veggies when I get home from work. And no matter what, it seems that all varieties get on the cage floor. The only thing my tiel doesn't like is egg biscuit. He will pick it up and literally toss it out of the bowl.
