Female Solomon Island Eclectus
So its been 2 months now that we've had our 10 month old female SI and she has never left her cage to be with us and was wondering if this is normal? We are probably over reacting but I guess hearing others opinions might make us feel better lol.

Her behavior has gotten much better over all for example I can get her out of her cage with no problem. Also once she's stepped up, she's very sweet and for the most part allows us to kiss and pet her back but she's always looking to get back to her cage. I can't wait for her to not want to go back to her cage and just hang out with me. She does seem to shake slightly when being held which I gather is her still being slightly afraid.

She does show other signs of being happy such as chatting (no words yet), stretching, and preening her self.

just looking as I said for some feedback. thanks everyone

Sounds like you are making progress, I'd say just keep working with her and be patient.
Patience.
After a few hundred times being out with nothing bad happening she'll know it is ok.
*grin*

Well u are doing good

Give it more time, it can take up to 4 months before they really feel comfortable, when Eckies change homes they stress a lot and they stress more when they are over 6 months

My first Eckie was 4 months and he adapted to my home in few days, and Jade who was 6 months is been almost a month and he still shakes ( but he asks to be out of his cage all the time lol) I guess males are less territorial

As noted it can take between 3 - 4 Months to form bonds. Females tend to take the adjustment a bit lower. If you wanted to rush it which I do not recommend as these could breach trust is place a perch next to her cage for few day so she is used to it.

Once she is comfortable maybe "stepping up" onto it with comfort of cage nearby. I would move it to another room in a far off corner where you normally sit. Then you could simply bring her out of cage, and close ways back to her cage. She would get choice to be on perch or be with you, or go exploring the household vain for a cage.

The main thing is simply let her be in your presence lots while maybe not touching you directly. I used to train my birds by playing on computer in same room but far enough away to give space. They would study me and eventually want to come see.

My male took ages (I think 8-12 months). In fact he started talking before he was interested in hanging out with me. He'd step up, but didn't want to stay on my arm or shoulder. Eventually I left him alone and he started taking. He now flies to me when it suits him. He can ignore me for ages. I think eckies are like cats. ..
