Wiskas Temtations Treats Safe For Parrot?

My parents have thier first parrot and are feeding it all kinds of items. It's a young parrot and I worry about the dangers of sugar in ice cream and all the ingredients of Wiskas Temtations that they feed thier parrot.

Well, you should worry! Parrots can't digest the cream in ice cream, or any other dairy products for that matter. And sugar is a no no as well.

How about providing your parents with a diet info sheet that they can refer to? Or, better yet, send them to this website and have them look through the parrot diets section.

What species is the bird? I'm sorry to say they're going to kill their bird if they keep feeding it junk food and pet food. I'm very happy you joined the forum, it sounds like your parents just bought a parrot for the heck of it without any research on it's care D:

Yes, whiskas is cat food....the temptations are these little crunchy/soft bite sized treat things... I'm pretty sure they are meat based ....

So they're cat treats. It's a good thing you checked up on this, and hopefully you can convince your parrots to go the healthier route. Birds shouldn't have anything for cats, or any other pet for that matter. Copperarabian provided an excellent link above about diet. Check and double check if what you're feeding is safe. Don't be afraid to come on here and ask questions, there's a wealth of info on this forum. Good luck

WHY ON GOD'S EARTH ARE THEY FEEDING THEIR BIRD CAT FOOD?!

Someone show them the pellets for birds, and compare ingredients... they may look the same, but they are not.

A parrot does not need that much meat. A little chicken and fish now and again, but not the kind of formula you would feed a cat.

And dairy is a no-no... they can't digest it properly. If they are going to give them ice cream then the only "safe" variety is a tiny amount (TINY!) of sherbert, or those frozen fruit popsicles... those also have a lot of sugar, but at least they can be fed as a VERY OCCASIONAL treat.

They are destroying this bird's liver... AND causing vitamin deficiencies.

Fruits, veggies, pellets, nuts, and a limited amount of seed... NOT beef chunks for cats!

Lol I really hope this was a troll thread and there is not a family somewhere feeding their lactose-intolerant parrots ice cream and cat treats...

Thanks for all your comments, sorry to say I'm no troll and yes my parents did not research what they where getting into. Nor did the seller advise them on the animals care. Hopefully I can get them away from feeding the poor bird the junk food.
I'm not sure of the breed, it's a beautiful green, light green belly with yellowing towards the tail with a red beak. Some kind of Amazon I'm guessing. I can not find a matching photo online that resembles the bird. It is a young bird maybe 6-8 months old.

Oh my....do you live near an actual pet store? Better yet, you should search for stores that specialize in bird products in your area... I would also do some research (there is a pretty good thread on this forum) about locating an avian vet in your area & getting in touch with them..... You will need them if your parents bird keeps eating this food....

What are it's living conditions like currently?????
