Hi! Thought it would be interesting to hear words/phrases/sentences in your language.

I speak Afrikaans as my home language. If you want to know any random words, feel free to ask!

Here are some phrases:

Greetings:
Goeie more/oggend: good morning
Goeie middag: good afternoon
Goeie naand: good evening
Hoe gaan dit?: how is it going
Hallo: hello(obviously)
Totsiens: until we see again(or "goodbye")
Baai Baai/baai: bye-bye/bye

Dzień dobry: Good morning/good afternoon (we have just one phrase for both)
Dobry wieczór: good evening
Jak się masz?: how are you?
Cześć: hello
Do widzenia: Goodbye
Pa pa: bye-bye

Maybe the next posts something like "My name is...", "I come from...." etc.? I mean such basics which we learn during first lesson of any language. If people wanted to continue this thread, it would become a mini-dictionary of different languages 😅

I saw this and I wasn't sure how to write the Polish stuff... some things I will be writing in brackets, the form depends what's next in the sentence. The easiest way is to explain on people - the first form may be used about "owning" a boy (eg. my son), second one for a girl and the third word for a group of people (I could add the forth one for a group of boys but I didn't want to make it more complicated)

rudosterka: conure (genus Pyrhurra)

barwnica/lora wielka: eclectus parrot (the second name means "big lory" and it always confuses people making them thinking it's a species of lories)

łąkówka: grass parrot (Neophema, Bourkes)

I am learning Polish online, after having heard in the past the language at holidays and around the old people in my family. It’s so different from learning French or Spanish. But I am surprised at the things I remember and that the sounds are pretty easy for me 😊

Fanfact: I swear almost only in English 😅 In general I rarely swear but when I do it's hardly ever in Polish
(btw my mom said it sounds prettier in English😝)

Well, a most parrots in afrikaans are very similar to their English counterparts.

Dove= duif
Parrot= papagaai
Bird=voel
Chicken= hoender
Duck=eend
Pigeon= pronkduif
Goose=gans

Thats all I can think of now lol

I remember at school the kids would always make fun of the fact that the word for subject in afrikaans(fak) sounds very similar to the F word lmao. My brother was once talking in afrikaans and some kid snitched on him for "swearing" but the teacher didn't think he did anything wrong lol

Do you want a fanfact about Polish parrot names? I just realized that current official Polish names of Rainbow lorikeet ("lorysa niebieskobrzucha") and violet-necked lory ("lorysa modrobrzucha") mean exactly the same thing - "blue-bellied lorikeet". There are just used two different words for "blue". It's confusing, even I was confused today.... especially the name for violet-necked lories because for many years its meaning was the same as in English
