Worried about my senegal. pls help

Hi All,

I just got a 3 month old senegal from a pet store. I have it since yesterday afternoon. Today it started preening it's feathers and started taking out some of her short green (size of my thumb about) feathers. she's taken out 4 or 5 already.

I'm very worried about her now thinking she's got stress and ripping out her feathers due to that. I think she is molting Could that be why she's doing that? She's pretty shy and reserved as well. Probably still getting used to me.

Please help. I'm afraid she may hurt herself.

Its good to keep an eye on such things but you may be overly concerned here.

It is a good idea to get a new parrot checked out by a vet shortly after getting them home; this could ease all concerns, but pulling out old feathers is perfectly normal - most often you'll see the fluffy (generally white) down feathers coming out, but quite regularly they discard the other feathers as well. I would only be concerned if she is leaving bald spots.

Give her time, be patient, be observant, but also relax - I doubt this is anything to be concerned about (at least as of yet).

Thanks Auggie's dad. Yes i can see the white down feathers underneath the ones he plucked. That takes a load of my mind. Thanks again for your help.
