Chewie, my 6 month old gcc conure has started doing what I think might be regurgitation :'( she bobs her head a lot and it kinda looks like she's heaving.

She did it the other day after she'd had a beak full of my little finger (she was nibbling while I was playing my computer), then today after she'd been playing about on my sister's foot.

Her behaviour and poop are fine, she seems more lovely and cuddly every day, and does our special kissy noise almost constantly. As i'm writing this she's snuggled in my hair quacking away :-)

What are the likely explanations for this? Could she be a bit peaky... is she getting a bit overly attached, and is there anything I should do or look out for?

I have a green and yellow parakeet that started doing this recently... then it progressed to it spitting out a phlegm.. I immediately thought it was trich or a respiratory infection...

In my birds case, it turns out he was feeding the other parakeet... odd... but at least it wasn't trich...

Your bird may regurgitate on you.. this is said to be a sign of affection..my macaw does this too..

Ginger, I'm thinking that your Chewie is crazy in love with you and is the bobbing/regurg posture is another expression of her love for you, as are the clingy, cute things.

Love is a splendid thing !!!

Regurgitation is FINE and nothing to worry about. That is how birds show love and how they feed each other. The do not only feed their babies but they will feed each other, family or not and they will even try to feed people sometimes. It is well documented that some birds have foot fetishes and regurgitate on toes.

Throwing up is a different story. That is verification that your bird is sick.

I guess I should add that if the regurgitation develops into birdie masturbation, that should be discouraged and whatever stimulation is being provided should be avoided in the future. You can YouTube it to know what to look out for. Yes, it does exist.

Ah thanks for your helpful posts :-) the thought of birdie masturbation is actually terrifying, I think I nearly heaved then as well as Chewie! She's not actually been sick, it just looks like she's going to be. So for now, i'll just put it down to her thinking i'm the best flock-mate ever and keep a close eye on her

I thought I was the only one who thought my lil guy sounded like he is quacking!! Its so cute!!
