I want to build a stand for my ynp amazon.I have a large limb from an oak tree.I was wondering if oak was a safe wood for birds to chew.I looked online at some list of safe woods but none mentioned oak.does anyone know if it is safe

Most sites list oak wood as bad. However i use it for perches after drying and it works great. I've seen the feral amazons here in Fla eating green acorns in the live oaks, hard to believe it's bad. The issue ,best i can tell, is the "tannins" in the green bark and leaves. I've used tons of oak over the years but IMO hickory or pecans is better.Ash works well , but any of them i would dry first.

i had planned on drying it good first and then peeling all the bark off of it.

The tannins won't taste good, so they shouldn't be able to eat enough to upset the tummy. I took a bite out of a live oak acorn once, and only once! VERY bitter and drying! I dare you to try one!

If you have white oak near you, I'm jealous. Supposedly, native Americans used to have wars over who got to harvest them, because of how good they are.

For some reason, I was under the impression oak was okay for parrots. I would spray it down or soak it with something to kill any nasties that might be living on it. Soaking might also remove some of the tannins.
