Hi !!!

I live in western Kentucky and found your website today. WOW. Lots of good info here for sure.

I would like to find a nice parrot to adopt.

I like all parrots, so not particular about the type of bird.

I have been rehabbing some baby squirrels since last September, they will be leaving soon to go to the woods.

I have purchased 3 large flight cages that will be empty. I have also turned my back deck with roof on it into a large cage with 1/2 inch mesh hardware cloth. It is 12 foot wide and 18 foot long, so this will be a good outside area with a roof to allow parrot to fly in the warm weather here.

So I have invested in all these cages and things for the squirrels and they will be going to live in the woods soon, so I hate to let all these good cages and LOVE go to waste. :D:rainbow1:

Hi and welcome to the forum! Hope you have a good time here. :)

Just a reminder that different parrot needs different diet, cage, care, noise level, etc. their personality is different too. It's great that you love all parrots, but finding the right one can be hard. So before asking for parrots, make sure to do lots of research about it. :)

Welcome to the forum:)

Welcome!!!!! I believe you will enjoy this forum. There is a wealth of resources in the membership.
I have one question. It seems you enjoy furry animals also. If you want, in the future , to have both, feather and fur, do you have the space so that both are comfortable?

Hello! The net-enclosed deck you made sounds incredible for some fresh-air activity.

I have 3 little squirrels I raised on bottles.. They will be going to live in the woods soon.

Then I will have 3 big flight cages and a very large wire meshed aviary to use on the back porch that will be super for summer time with a roof.

I am really partial to the Macaws, always wanted one, but I like the green parrots of all sorts.

I don't think housing would be the issue here. I don't have any noise problems here or special needs here for the people, so that leaves the parrots to rule the roost here.

I would like to take in a pair of some kind of parrot so that maybe they would have each other for company when I am not here.

I don't work and stay home all day, so I am really flexible to adjusting to the needs of any specific parrot.

I think those little sun conures are gorgeous too, would love to have something like that as well.

Since I have the cages, the space and even an outdoor wire mesh aviary with a roof, I figured, why not adopt some nice birds to use all this stuff that will be going to waste here really soon.

I can easily learn how to take care of any particular parrots dietary needs, and love that there is a wealth of info here and help to be had.

I don't necessarily like cockatiels or cockatoos that much, just my preference. I like brightly colored gorgeous feathers of any hue though.

My bird experience in the past has been limited to pet store birds like canary and parakeet.

I live on a large farm in the country, so have plenty of room, no neighbors to complain, no landlords to gripe etc.

Welcome to the forum. Your accommodations for your future parrot(s) sounds incredibly nice. I am planning to make a back porch inclosure for my feathered kids to enjoy some fresh air when I can be outside with them.

Read all you can on the parrots you are considering the most and soon it will come to you which one you want to have in your life. I am biased as I favor my macaws the most, but I do love all my parrots greatly & I have a varied flock.

Good luck in your search & I look forward to hearing all about your new darling when you get it. And I think baby squirrels are so darn cute! Bet you'll miss them when they leave.

thanks to all who welcomed ME :)

Oh my ya'll have some beautiful birds.

What is that gorgeous one in the last post ?? I know they are some type of macaws.. gorgeous gorgeous.

I like those eclectic? sp? parrots too. they are pretty.

Turquoise's profile pic? I think it's a hybrid Catalina macaw (scarlet x blue&gold)

Make sure the wire mesh on your porch doesn't have any zink in it, zinc keeps metal from rusting as fast but for parrots that put everything in their mouth it will be deadly if they get metal poisoning. As well as a expensive vet visit.

A great thing to do is find a local parrot rescue you can volunteer at, or a pet store that carries well cared for parrots where you can learn more.

I live out in the sticks, there is not even a pet store that has parrots for 300 miles in one direction... lol.

But I am a fast learner, so maybe that will help. :D

I could go out and buy a parrot in Nashville maybe, but I would rather give one a home that is losing their home.

The last bird in her sig pic is a Green Wing Macaw, VERY large birds, I know, I have 2 of them. As for adopting one of that size, if they have behavioral issues, it might not be a good pick, they are very strong birds and their beaks are extremely strong as well. For the most part they are well behaved birds though IMO.

Welcome to the forum! *wave* Good luck in your search of a new baby!

I think one of the green parrots of some sort, maybe like the yellow nape or something would be wonderful or even one of those little yellow parrots conures I think they are called.

I just want something pretty and bright and cheerful. If it sings or makes lots of noise that is great. If it needs lots of attention that is great too.

I don't really want a big bird that bites or has behavior problems, I am not experienced enough for something that is psychologically messed up !!

But even love birds would be welcome. They are very pretty.

I just want to re home one rather than buying one, as I will feel like I am doing some good for a parrot who needs help. That would make me feel good to know I was helping give a forever home to one or even a pair of birds.

I will just keep posting and checking, maybe I will get lucky.

I still have my squirrels to take care of and the cages are not empty yet. I will be lonesome when they go live in the woods outside this spring and I want another pet to keep me company.

Does it sound shallow that I am not particular about the parrot, just that it is pretty ?? lol. I can learn to love any parrot and take good care of it.

No, not shallow at all! There are plenty of us on here who have a varied flock. That in my personal opinion means that we have a love for a great many species. I do love each & every one of my flock. I just spend more time with my macaws mostly because Roscoe my younger of the brothers is totally bonded to me & wants to be with me when he is out on his play perch. My Green Wing girl isn't home yet, she is still being hand fed by her breeder, but I am told she is very cuddly. So I anticipate I will have two macaws that I will be dividing my time with. My Eclectus girl is very independent. A trait the females are sometime prone to be and I love that about her. She is my Diva of the flock. She lets you know real quick if she is displeased.

I think you will be a very great parront no matter which one you decide on. Every parrot species has some great quality about them that makes us want them in our lives & there is one out there waiting for you. You will find it when the time is right & you will know it when you meet 'The One'.

WOW!! I'm jealous. I'd have a menagerie with all that space. Probably best that I do not have it!!!! Hehehe.
It is a significant decision to take on a big bird. I inherited a macaw recently and had several years to anticipate it and it is still a very big life style change. I'm adapting along with Coqui.
I would start with your daily routine. Does a large bird fit into it with their needs and what about your routine are you willing to change or modify for the needs of the bird(s). Compare that to a prototype of what a bird needs /demands / wants / requires (in no special order) in addition to the time and patience for training.

At the end of that exercise you should know which bird(s) you want and will fit into as well as enhance your life as well as you for their lives.
Very best wishes to you!!:D :blue1::41:

Well I would bring the parrot inside during the winter time of course!

I don't necessarily want a macaw, they are pretty. I am open to any adoption.

I like the conures an awful lot. They are gorgeous.

Yes the deck is an outside deck and had to be made of treated lumber. It has 1/2 mesh all over the whole thing. I thought it would be a good place to hang out in the warm weather with the birds and their cages.

Since I have a Bachelor's degree in Science, I think I can research up how to take care of any bird that I am lucky enough to get.

I am 50 years old and live alone.

I am beginning to feel like no one wants me to take in a parrot!! I am going to keep trying because I want to share my life with a pretty bird and I feel that I will be doing some good to provide a homeless bird a forever home.

I ain't no bird flipper. Don't have ANY birds right now. My last bird was a canary.

Is there a rescue or sanctuary near you to visit and/or volunteer? That way you could experience different birds and see if one took a shine to you.
