I had a text today from a friend who asked me how much do I charge for a beak and nail trim. As I have never offered these services it caught me off guard. I have always done my own birds and I was not aware that there was no local bird groomers. After really thinking about it, looking at getting my Avian Certification and checking on insurance/bonding I am really thinking about it.

I would love to be mobile so I could go to the birds and not have to worry about my own over head. I would also offer bird sitting, toy making and refurbishing of old toys.

As my main job I am a stained glass artist and I am taking a dog training course now so this would not be my only source of income. I just wonder how many would be open to a groomer coming to them. :white1:

I do my own grooming, but if I didn't I would be open to a mobile groomer as long as they had a good reputation :)

A lot of people don't know how, or aren't willing to do their own grooming. I find it a little funny, but it will definitely get you some costumers :D

I would!
Actually a lady here has done just that. She works as a vet tech and volunteers at a parrot rescue. She started a bird supply online business and has started offering mobile grooming services. She comes with a great reputation and is doing really well.

Well I am in the vet field as well and work at a parrot rescue and I am constantly getting called about grooming and so on. I'd say if you got the reputation and the know how heck yea:p.

Lots of know how. No reputation.... We do not have a rescue anywhere close, we do have a bird club but its vary small and mostly breeders. I would have to just put out advertising and really hope for word of mouth.

Start with your friend, one reference is the beginning.
I'm sure you'll find ways to advertise, you can build up a business.

I might use one until my birds were tame enough for me to brave it myself.

Sounds great !! Go for it [like the sitting and toys too] Who knows what it might turn into.

We started doing our own grooming about a year ago, but before that, it was a hour (round trip) to take Kiwi to the only experienced groomer in the area. We would have loved to have had someone willing to come to us, he's so much more comfortable getting groomed at home. I think it's a great idea, and there are plenty of parrot owners who don't feel comfortable grooming themselves. I also think getting your certification and being insured will add to your credibility and bring in more customers, as you can proudly advertise that level of experience!

Just talked to the one place in town that does bird grooming as well as every other animal you can think of. They cant wait for me to start and are willing to send business my way. They are also looking at carring Harrison parrot food and other good high end food!

I think this sounds great and I hope you do it, maybe then you could start doing other animals to if you really like grooming, in my vet assistant classes we did basic grooming like nails, full body clips, etc... I liked it, but it wasn't something I'd do all day long:p
