Male eclectus
Hi guys just a little update. I'm hus and own a male eclectus that I was having trouble feeding. He was only 9 weeks old when I got him and we had alot of trouble at the start. But I guess it just took alittle time for each of us to get used to each other. We are really good friends now. When it's time to eat he happily steps up onto my arm from his cage and I spoon feed him formula mixed with a tiny bit of baby puree. He is 12 weeks old now and things are so great. He loves kiwi fruit and mangoes heaps. I'm just a little curious about a few things that I hope someone can shed some light on for me. When he is in his cage and he hears me voice he screams. He won't stop until I let him out. I try to ignore him but he won't stop. He loves to set in my lap. That's where he most comfortable. He sleeps on my lap and raises one foot??? Does anyone know why??? Well thanks to all that helped us. Thanks heaps.

Mylah raises one foot when shes sleeping, i'd say he's worked out if he screams you let him out, just try and reward him for good behaviour and ignore the bad, ours demand sneezes when she wants something she just sneezes its a fake sneeze they are so intellegent :-)

I can't help you there, Mac's cage door stays open from day light to dusk. So he can come out when ever he wants. He also climbs off his cage and come hunting me if he doesn't see mw within a 30 minute period or so.

There was an article some time ago in Bird Talk about toe tapping of the Eckies. It is something they do.

Healthy birds sleep on one foot, this is normal. Your bird has realized that when he screams you let him out! They are very smart! Unfortunaley it is a catch 22, he screams (drives you nuts) you let him out! I guess ear plugs and trying to only take him out when he is quiet! They do best when only rewarded for good behavior!

Are his wings clipped

Yes, both my birds wings are clipped. He will walk all around the house looking for me.

Huss i am so pleased your doing so well with your boy, however you seem to have reinforced a screaming behavior that you really need to address ASAP.

You are going to have to give him some very tough love for the time being. I can see where you have made a few mistakes. I know others are going to disagree with me but you really have to be one jump ahead of your bird in the mind games.

I am rearing a male at the moment, About 8 weeks now & on 3 feeds a day. He has just started to climb onto the edge of his box & perches there. Funny little guy if he gets startled he jumps back in his box. All i have done for the last 4 weeks is feed him, give him a quick cuddle & put him back in his box. I don't handle him much at all. Why you ask, he needs to know Mum is around but isn't totally dependent on my presents so that he screams for me. He does squawk from time to time, but usually only at feed time. Once fed he is good.

You are going to have to set boundaries. But you have to start now before this screaming gets to out of hand. I know it's going to be hard for a week or two but if you keep at it he will learn that screaming will get him no where.
