My 6-7 week old lovebird can fly a bit. I have moved him into his cage now and one thing I notice is that he sits on a perch flapping his wings really fast. He’s does this fairly often. Is this because he is a fledging?

Really short answer: Yes!!!

The reasoning is to develop the flight muscles and to begin feeling the lifting power of the wings and the high-pressure trapped between the fanned tail feathers and the down-stroke of the wings.

Start teaching flight routes and landing spots...

working out.....to better attack his/her enemies...

A young bird is full of energy....it's healthy to develop muscle mass.

enjoy it,

it's healthy

It is fledgling, it a hard wired behavior as mentioned above to build up muscled. Fledgling and learning to fly are huge milestone, important to health and mind. He should start taking short flights, it hopping in the air just above pet h ad he learns.

Thank you that’s great! He seems to have chosen one landing spot on the side of the cage already so that’s good.
