Two Lovebirds (Xayah and Rakan)
For my two lovebirds, Xayah and Rakan, I'm always trying to understand them. They're both young, being just 7 weeks old. Everytime I open up their cage, they jump out and immediately fly around for a bit before perching on a chair , and they proceed to fly again until they perch somewhere else. On occasion they fly to me on their own or when I call them. Are young lovebirds supposed to be energetic and all "jumpy"? Do they calm down as they grow older? Any advice would be great!

hi, i dont know if i will help or not because i dont have really experience with young one and i just got a lovebird which i currently training hom everyday,

but what some senior member told me , do u make a sudden movement or ur movement is too quickly? birds can sense u as a 'predator' or got scared because u do that

and also try to approach slowly and use a calm voice.

hope my opinion might work ><

Hello, and welcome.

Here's some reading we usually recommend.

Also, since theyre free-flying, be sure to parrot-proof your area. Day-to-day easy-to-forget/overlook stuff. I try to have a little checklist litany before I let the Rbird loose. Toilet closed/windows/doors/stove off/fans off. Candles, toxic plants and dangeous perch-places (like uncovered light-bulbs) are already long gone in our house. :)

Lovebirds are pretty high energy at any age, but at that age they really just learned to fly and they LOVE IT. It’s like little kids who just learned to run and they run until they drop lol.

Also, lovebirds in pairs almost always choose a close relationship with each other and not with their human. If you want a loving relationship that is close and intimate you may want to consider reigning one of them. Please make the choice RIGHT AWAY while they are still very young. In even a couple of weeks their chances of adoption will diminish significantly.
