Zinc Question

Hello! I want to get a necklace that is made of zinc (painted over of course). I know zinc is poisonous if ingested so I won't let them touch it. It is a friendship necklace and I don't wear jewlery often so it will probably spend most of its time in the closet. Zinc isn't poisonous as long as it's not ingested right? Is there some kind of fumes?

No. Zinc is only dangerous to parrots if ingested. Let me just put in a caveat - its also dangerous if you are going to heat it up to the point where it starts to melt, but your head will have long since burned up if you do - zinc melts at 787oF. Then it produces fumes.
