Hey guys. I have a male Alex parrot named zazu. He's really playful, healthy and friendly(although bites sometimes). I'm worried about him. He just lost his tail. I'm really busy so sometimes i keep him in a cage. It's an average sized caged. I think he lost his tail because of being in the cage. Will it grow back? Please help.

Thanks

This happened to my Alexandrine when I first got him. After I did my research, I changed the cage cuz I was worried it's Metal poisoning and I stopped giving him peanuts. His tail grew back with the next molt.

Good luck

did the feathers fall out, or did they break off? If they fell out, I suggest a PBFD test which can be done by your vet or with a simple home kit which is available for about $20 in several countries. If they broke off, I suggest a larger cage.

Thanks. No they didn't all fall of. Only the longest 2 fell of. The tail still exists but it's shorter. I think they broke because of its tail constantly touching the the cage walls. I'm going to change the cage now. Will it grow back?

It will grow back. It's like cutting a birds wings (except you don't want to cut the tail), it will come back in the next molt.

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Could be the sign of molting? Seeing shorter tail feathers suggest to me that new ones are growing, pushing the older ones out.
