Hi everyone. I want to give my bf amazon some milk thistle to help his liver. I bought some 8580 capsules. Should I sprinkle all the contents of one of these daily on his food or less?

Lupin had a blood test to check to see if he had asper, and luckily he was all clear of that but showed he had allergies. The blood test also showed his liver was not quite working right but not concerning. I thought that I would try and help him anyhow with milk thistle. His cholestrol was a little high. His diet is harrisons pellets with fruit and veg so there is not much i can do to improve that. I think the 6 weeks of antifungals may have effected his liver. Thanks in advance

I think you're best consulting a vet, too much vitamins/nutrients are just as bad as too little so you wanna make sure you're getting the right amount for him. Glad to see you putting effort into your birdies health, most wouldn't bother. xx

Milk thistle is pretty natural and healthy.

If you haven't opened the bottle yet, any way you can take it back and get a liquid form of milk thistle? Just thinking the liquid version may be easier to administrate, although the capsule form may be okay if sprinkled over moist food?

I have Nature's Answer - Milk Thistle Seed which I got through my a-vet, and she prescribed a dose for one of my birds. Found out, it works great on sick birds who aren't feeling well, even if they may have very little or no problems with their liver.

for my blue fronted amazon willy (45 years old) my vet tech told me to take a capsule put in on a plate or glass and make three lines when feeding veggies take one line and mix into the moist veggies. this gives him enough milk thistle without over doing it. sometimes he eats the veggies and sometimes not depends as i am still trying to determine what he likes and dislikes. Today I am going to try some brown rice that also has other things in it as if I recall correctly his previous owner said he enjoyed rice. I am giving him vitamins in his water, and am considering in putting one drop of liquid milk thistle in that as he is picky about the veggies right now.
