I have a lilac-crowned. Do I need to do anything for her beak? Should I have anything for her to scratch against? Any info on the bill is appreciated.

Provide your lilac crown with plenty of chewing opportunities. Toys, wooden branches, sandy perch, etc. That way beak maintenance may never be necessary.

Agree with Wendy, give her lots of things to chew . Also NEVER trim a beak unless it can't eat or for health reasons. If you have to for a whatever reason make a certified vet do it.

Hello. As has been stated already, so long as she has plenty of things to chew and nuts to crack, her beak should stay trim naturally. Problems only tend to arise as birds age or when they are not given adequate "beak exercise". I will say, in recent years, my parents 3 birds (all over 40) have started needing the vet to actually trim their nails and beaks. It seems they are growing faster, even though they are still playing/chewing as much as they did when they were younger birds. The 2 amazons seem to have more of a problem than the cockatoo, which may be species-related. But they are all advanced in age, so I equate it to how older people grow nose hair and ear hair faster lol. My 15 y/o BFA never needs his beak trimmed, just his nails when the sharp points start forming (to protect our hands!), but they never get super overgrown.

Also, do expect to occasionally see some "chips" or flakes on the beak of a healthy bird. It's perfectly normal, and nothing to worry about. If you want, you can use a nail file to file the beak smooth, but there's no reason that benefits the bird (besides cosmetically, which your parrot doesn't care about) that you need to do that. Best of luck!
