Blue Fronted Amazon - Norman
While trying to bond with my Blue Front Amazon Norman the other day he started making odd noises. This the first time I've heard him do this. He continued to do it so I videoed him. He didn't seem distressed. But when I've played it back to him he gets very annoyed, his eyes start pinning and struts back and forth. So I stopped but I'm curious. Do Amazons making cooing noises? Anyone have any idea what these noises mean?
I've adding the YouTube link but I'm not sure if I did this correctly.
Thanks!

Bosley makes those noises, I call it his crying noise. The first time I heard him do it was when I took him to the vet and the vet toweled him.
Since then I have figured out he does it when he wants attention and can do it at will, like if I'm out of the room or talking on the phone(he doesn't like that)

You've got me thinking? It's amazing how different birds are. He was sitting on my knee with my total attention. He was laughing at first then started doing the whining, you can hear me trying to make him laugh but he just continued, tried to touch him, but he wasn't having any of that either. He did the whining for about 5 minutes straight and hasn't done it since or even before that. I wish he did this when he wanted attention! No Norman screams bloody murder! To the point that when I first moved into my place my neighbors thought that I was abusing a child and he was screaming for help!

I agree with Terri (Pinkbirdy). Hunter, my YN makes a very similar sound, just out of the blue, and just to be vocal. :)

Gosh, Norman is SO pretty!!

Thank you Ladies! I was more curious then concerned.
Are your birds DNA sexed? Seems like everyone who responded have male birds making similar noises.

We got Bosley from a rescue, not sure if he was DNA tested or not. I am going by what they told me and he acts like a male.
Bosley screams for attention too, he only starts the whining if the screams aren't working LOL

Skittles is a surgically sexed male, he used to cuss and he has a tatoo, I think he was a sailor in a past life!

I've never quite heard him whine like that. It almosts sounds like he might have heard a baby cry and repeats it.

Skittles makes happy little beeps and coos when he's eating something he really likes, he barks like my little dogs and he makes a little call when he can't see anyone (it's like a high pitched "erp") if I hear him I repeat it and he calls back. I think it is his contact call. If no one "erps" back at him, he is known to scream "WHAATT" over and over and over ...! (Drives the neighbors nutz! LOL)

:green:

So far, no whinning!

I'll bet his tattoo is on the right wing bend.

Learn something new every day!

Is there a symbol or something for each gender? I've never looked in to parrot tattooing. I'd be worried a silly vet would tattoo the wrong side and so my bird would forever be wrongly sexed haha!

No ,it's just a "shot" of ink under the skin, nothing fancy. next time he gets good and wet you should be able to see it.
