As a new member here, I thought I'd post my wonderful Yellow-nape "Sammy".
He's a rescue - he was adopted as a very young bird (I've heard he was possibly obtained just an egg, but I doubt that) by a man and his wife. The man died when Sammy was just 9, and Sammy (being the strongly-bonding type that he is) kept calling the man's name. After a few days, the widow was so distressed she put Sammy & his cage out in the rain, and left him there. Bear in mind, this is the Pacific Northwest, and it was November, with temperatures just above freezing, frequently windy, with heavy rain pretty much 24/7. After a few days of Sammy calling for attention, the neighbors had enough and called an animal rescue group ("Broken Promises"), who collected him...and promptly called me (I think they consider me a soft touch!).
Naturally, once I met Sammy I knew we needed each other. He rapidly bonded to me (not to my wife, though - he flares, flaps, and pins at her whenever she gets near...unless, of course, she comes bearing a peanut, cashew, pomegranate section, or other offering!), and spends hours on my shoulder or lap. He chatters endlessly when he's alone, carrying on multi-voice conversations with himself (I wonder if there was a police scanner or something near his cage when he was young - that's what it sounds like) and, when I'm in the house but out of his sight, he calls loudly for me.
BTW, his favorite "pet" is our Chinese Water Dragon lizard "Dimetrios" - Sammy calls & rings his bell to get the lizard's attention, and once he has it, he talks to him for hours on end. The lizard seems to enjoy it!
