Bingo recently went through a major molt. After loosing a lot of down feathers and quite a few long feathers I noticed he was sleeping a lot.
He spent most of his time grooming his feathers and sleeping. His appetite was normal as was his droppings.
He would not go down to the floor of his cage to play in his box.

I was close taking him to the vet but I felt that it his behaviour was due to the molt and the fact we are getting much less hours of sunlight now.

The last 2 days he is back to his normal self. Dancing, talking (amazon speak), Playing in his box.

Has anyone else noticed this kind of thing after a molt?

Oh yaaa!!! We had a snow (downy feather) storm mid-November! It was so bad, I was sure that he had friends stopping by and adding to the storm! Was a real grump prior to Thanksgiving, but was back to a happy dude, Thanksgiving day!

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
In twenty-eight years,I have never seen Amy experience a hardy/heavy molt.
A few face fluffies and a couple of sleeves and/or rudder feathers hear and there.
But there were a few times when that beady-eyed monster Jonesy left what Steven describes about his Julio! A blizzard had hit the kitchen or in and around his digs!

When I would try to pick him up while he was in his sleepy mode he would give me this look that said clear as day.

Pleased to hear Bingo has improved but just a gentle nudge to make sure his diet is tip top to help him through this trying time. :)

That is a problem. He does not want to eat his pellets.
I will be buying a different kind soon and see if he likes it better.
fingers crossed.

Arrgghhh!...feeding...Amy has turned her beak up at the chop I so lovingly and carefully prepared for him.
Now I find him walking around his cellar picking at this or that, and spending more time at his "emergency" seed/pellet bowl.

I'm not big on "fast food"..occasionally ( once every couple months) Chinese or maybe a pizza pie..MAYBE once a year I get a hankering for McyDee's...like last night

I got their value meal ("value" my butt:mad:) two cheeseburgs FF's ( I make sure I tell them I want a fresh batch BEFORE they shake on the salt!) a chocolate shake and apple pie. Of course I share with the fid's.

Amy was first to get a FF..I think it took him fifteen minutes to eat that thing..carefully and delicately pulling it a part and actually EATING it..not just shredding it and flinging it here and there.
Beebers even nibbled a three inch long piece down to my fingers as I held it for him and he rarely eats things when I hold it for him..usually runs the other direction. He nibbled on the burger too as I held it.

I gave Amy a piece with the bun, burger,a sliver of cheese, even with ketchup and mustard ( no onion of course) and he was in heaven.
Like I said..a once a year treat they seem to enjoy.

Have you tried Nutriberries? :)

I have a large bucket of them (big enough to make the colonel jealous).
Bingo has no interest in them. My cockatiels like them though so it was not a waste.

The people food Bingo gets is like.

Rice, pasta, cereal, mash potato, oatmeal cookies (small pieces).
Not the worst kind of stuff but not what he should be eating.
It's hard for us to eat and have him looking at your plate of food and giving you the evil eye.
First he just stares at you. Then he makes little noises to make sure you see him staring at you. If that does not work he starts his Steve Wonder dance.
If food is still not forthcoming he might work up to a scream.
We usually give in at the Steve Wonder point.

Yes Plum can be quite trying and will reserve a certain 'shout' for hey I want some!

Be crafty, have some food already prepped, tiny amount of mash with no milk/butter but veggies added in a dish to give as you sit down to eat. Then it is a case of no, you have some and avoid eye contact. It takes nerves of steel but do it once and it is easier to do again. If this takes off you may be able to just give the veggies eventually. Plum will look and not even ask for our food quite often now, he just goes back down to his own food and eats with the flock. Good luck.

Oh btw have you tried breaking bits off the Nutriberries instead of offering a whole one? Plum would not eat the parrot ones to start and thought he didnt like them until the vet gave me some cockatiel ones * which were a hit. Parrot, Cockatiel makes no difference now LOL. :) (*not so hard)

PS one thing that has interested Plum to chop is the addition of a small amount of carbs which Bingo seems to have a liking for as well. Tiny pasta such as arborio or baby stars in the mix, maybe a few rolled oats if it is a little wet. Or even a pinch of dry rolled oats placed on top?

Just wondering if you start singing at the Stevie Wonder point LOL? That would be a different reaction wouldnt it? "♫ I just called to say ..... ♬"

LOL on the Stevie Wonder Dance :p

I guess I'm lucky...Amy doesn't demand/beg.

Little fluff boy on the other hand helps himself to my plate before I know whats going on

Betty went through a near catastrophic molt recently. There were several large bald spots. It was bad enough that I had her at the vet just to be sure that's all it was. She never lost her appetite, but she did get less friendly, and is still somewhat grumpy. I'm going to guess she's going to stay that way until she's done growing large numbers of pin feathers.

I think I have a short clip. I am at work right now.
Bingo sways back and for and at the same time swings his head back and forth 180º. normally this is by him saying "soo cute" making kissing noises "lorito"

He normally stops his dance as soon as you point a cell phone at him.

They always know. I don't know how they know that the same device has switched from still pictures to video, but they know.

I wanted to get some video of JellyBean tonight and wound up propping my phone up on the table near him, starting the video and walking away. It was the only way to do it.
