SassyByrd (DYH Amazon) JoJo (GCC) Betty (GCC) DEARLY LOVED fids lost to “Teflon Disaster 12/17 RIP Pickles (GC),RIP Winston (Sun), RIP Lady PLEASE TAKE 5 MINUTES &TOSS OUT ALL YOUR TEFLON NOW!
SassyByrds vocabulary has been increasing at a phenomenal rate. I always talk to her like she is a very intelligent toddler. Lately when she really wants out of her cage she starts saying “step up” over and over (and over and over). As a clueless human, I didn’t connect the “step up” phrase with wanting out for awhile. This lack of intelligence (on my part) seemed to really frustrate her. Once I figured out what she was “asking” for, and responded appropriately (both verbally and by letting her out) she was so obviously pleased about it, it isn’t even funny. This cross species communication has really blown my mind. These birds are so much smarter than I ever imagined!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Parrots seem to have a more comprehensive ability to communicate than most other species. Perhaps the gift of speech endears them to us and fosters very close cooperation?

Mind blowing moments: The day your Sassy asks for the keys to the car! :D
The more attention you place on connecting what your Parrot is saying and place it in context, a much larger World will open up. Their communicate is more like shorthand.

Definitely shorthand! My Sam has certain words and sounds that always mean the same thing. Come get me, I want some of that, it is bedtime now, etc. It has taken me 36 years to figure them all out.
