Can talk but wont

Hey, my senegal parrot is about 9months old now. About 2 months ago he said 'hello' almost perfectly to someone who visited me. Before that iv heard him trying to mumble things. But now for the past 2 months he hasnt said a word. I have been talking to him as i always have. Anything i can do to get my feathered friend to say hello again?

Welcome to our forum. It sounds like you are talking about my TAG Rosie. She was a year old in April. I found out she is a closet talker. I put a tape recorder by her when I was doing other things and I was amazed at the words and sounds she makes. I think understanding the process is what it takes. Your bird is just at the beginning age of talking. I did record my voice also saying many words but that is a mimic and not cognative speach. It will come as everyone told me and they were right.

Shadow is very chatty and makes lots of sounds but has never said anything to us. We have all heard her say Hello but it's never been when we are watching her. My daughter said she was sure she said "Who's at the door?" yesterday but again it was when no one was in the room. All in good time

My first AG "Congo" was 3 years old when I became his guardian. My husband at the time, bought it from a guy, who was not coping.
LoL he could only speak a black language, very difficult to click your tongue and talk the way they do. It took me 3 years to train and teach him, the English language. I did feel like giving up at times, believe me many many times, we are only human after all. When he "suddenly" spoke after 3 years of silence, LoL he never ever shut up again.
I had an accident with my hand, could not use my right hand for almost a year, my ex-husband then took him in. Unfortunately, when visiting the vet, for his wings to be clipped and nails etc. (something I always did) he had a "suspected heart attack" and died.

Never ever give up, if there is a world there is a way, AND THE WAY TO GO IS KEEP TALKING AND TALKING AND TALKING AND TALKING AND MORE TALKING

My eclectus Scarlett is very quiet usually, but when the vacuum cleaner is on or she's on the shower rail while the shower's on, she talks and whistles continuously! She used to do it when the television was on but she's gotten used to it now since she's in the same room.
Why don't you try having him in the same room while you are vacuuming or put him on the shower rail when you have a shower? Or if someone is mowing their lawn next door, open the windows and put him nearby so he can hear it loudly. Maybe you could also try teaching him a whistle, if he can't pronounce his words perfectly he might be too shy to even try in front of anyone, but a whistle is easier and will be less time before he will be brave enough to do it in front you.
