Hi everyone!

So this is a bit weird and I hope this is the right spot...

My adult female budgie (named Stanley) has been flirting with my baby (female?) cockatiel, Abby. It's just in the past few days. Stanley has tried to mate with me in the past, and is displaying the same behaviors (grooming the face, kissing, and arching her back) to Abby suddenly.

Stanley absolutely hates my female tiel, Iggy, and harasses her if close enough. She was doing this to Abby as well until a few days ago. I'm really confused by this sudden change of heart. Also, even if Abby turns out to be male, she's only 3 months old right now.

Should I be discouraging the flirting Should I do anything else???

not that out of the ordinary to happen, obviously Iggy passed the test Stanley laid out. bit of a tricky one. I would like to say as long as nobody is hurt then no worries but naturally Stanley is going to become grumpy and of course egg laying is always a possibility which you want to mitigate as much as possible. But of course the real question would be how do you stop them?

Maybe discouraging the mating behaviours that Stanley is giving to Iggy but letting them be friends

I think you mixed the names and meant Abby! Stanley has been pecking at her and she stood up for herself so I guess you could be right. Stanley has always been grumpy so this is nothing new. She already laid a couple eggs in December but she hasn't done any nesty behavior since then so hopefully we're in the clear for now. I've already taken measures to discourage egg laying for both Stanley and the tiels.

That's what I mean, the only thing I could do I would think would be to discourage them.

Thanks for your input, this is a weird situation to me lmao
