Cockatiels - Oz & Kaila
Hello!

I just purchased a Lixit bird bath at my local pet store since my Kaila hates it when I try to mist her. I decided to try out the bath since I've seen her try to get in the rectangular, way too small for her big butt, water bowl

And it worked!!! Not even an hour after I put it in the cage see was shaking her butt in the bowl and splashing around (much to the despair of her cage buddy Oz who hates it when I put something new in the cage) so it got me wondering... Should I put the bath available all day, everyday with fresh water or is there such a thing as overbathing? Should I just put it there a few times a week? Would it be better if I got one of those dome shapped ones that don't take cage space and can be attached to nest door since I now know she enjoys bathing?

Anyway, this is what her new bath looks like:

And this is the one that I have questions about (does it seem better than the one above):

My baby bathes every 3 days, so I set her bath up very 2 to three days, away from the cage. I give her about 15 minutes to decide whether she wants a bath or not. A lot of water in your cage can rust it! For misting, I have found once JoJo is wet, she loves misting. I use a large ss dog bowl.

The photo of your baby in your avatar is darling!

My tiel has the dome shaped bath in the second photo. It keeps the water contained better than the open ones. I keep fresh water in Sweet Pea's bath every day. She bathes every day or every other day.

The only potential problem I see with the new bath is like Flboy mentioned, the potential for the water to rust the cage.

All of my guys like the full body approach rather than the head dunk or tail swish and they're size ranged differently, so I use a closed bottom flower pot base (18" across & about 2" deep...I use a smaller one for my p'let) my patty usually lets me know when they're ready to bathe if I forget to set up their their bath tubs...she'll make a heck of a mess with her water bowl to let me know it's bath time.....

When I setup their baths, I clear the table off & set the baths on a couple of towels until they're finished.....

Good luck.....
