A few questions

Alright, so I've had a pair of cockatiels, siblings, for 6 years now. They have been in separate cages but 5 feet from each other all their lives where they hang (we have cats so no stands). They do not get out together (fear of them mating..no incest wanted).

My main question, is I have recently moved and am in the process of talking to my landlord about allowing birds, if my landlord says yes, I'd be able to bring mine in (other is my sisters). Would it be bad to take one and not both? I could easily bring both in, my issue is how to properly give out time for them to be out because normally my sister has hers in her room and mine goes into mine. The birds are currently at my folks house, where they've been for the whole 6 years, excluding when they were born and flightless, and neither my sister nor I live there now. She is in a sorority so her taking hers is not an option, so would it be best to take both with me or see if they can be separated.

If I separate, how quickly will I know if this was a bad or a good thing?
If I bring both, will the move bother them? It's only 20 minute drive to my new place, so not a completely different environment.

In general what should I do, and what are the signs to watch out for because they've never left the house once they came there.
