YAY!!! Last Day of Meds!

So it's day 20 for Harley and Quinn. I'm so happy! I can finally go back to teaching basics instead of having angry, sick, molting birds! But on a positive note, Harley is definitely getting super strong. He's really wiggling out of my grip to give him meds. I think he's not too angry with me since I give him millet seed right after the nasty medicine. Quinn is becoming so fast that I have to place her in the tub to keep her in a smaller space to run away from me. I swear they know when it's medicine time.:09: I know she's not too angry with me because she runs away and then turns around after a second of seeing me holding the millet seed out for her. I love my little ones. I hope they come back with good news tomorrow from their results. Thanks again to everyone and for all the wonderful support.

That's great news! I'm glad to hear your birdies are doing better.
I remember reading one of your posts earlier, but can you remind me, what was wrong with them? Why did they need medicine?

I'm just starting Chipper on antibiotics. I had to give it to him by mouth, and he got REALLY mad at me. He was NOT going to let me do it, and so I brought him back to the vet to have them do it. Everything is going well so far. Today he had his second dose. They know how to restrain him right, and are able to give him the medicine pretty easily. I have to bring him back every day for about another week. They're not charging me anything, which is really nice of them to do. They only charged me for the initial visit. The vet office is kind of far from me, but it's definitely worth it to take Chipper to someone who knows what they're doing. He doesn't seem to get that stressed out when the vet does it, and he stays calm. Probably because they know how to restrain him, so he doesn't stress himself out by getting scared and running or flying away. It's done and over with quickly.

Chipper got mad at me when I tried to give him the medicine, and he was really cranky and kept biting me for a while. Also, he's probably not feeling well, and on top of everything, I think he has started molting. So he's really moody and cranky right now. He's very gentle and I can pet him once I get him out of his cage. But when he's in his cage, he is cranky and has an attitude sometimes, and he'll bite me if he's in a bad mood.

I read your post earlier as well ct92404. I didn't know how to restrain my bird's head either. I had the vet tech show me and had her watch me before I left to do it myself. It was hard the first time because I was so afraid that I would crush them to death but having this skill now, I know that this will be useful in other emergencies. When Harley broke a blood feather on Thanksgiving ( yes...always a holiday when things are closed), I had to restrain him so that we could pour flour on his feather to stop the bleeding. I know it's scary to hold them from fear of hurting them but have a vet teach you because there may come a day when you need that skill to help your friend. My tiels had spirochete. Like you, I have no idea how they got it but they had no other signs other than watery poop which I assumed was from a poor diet. I wish you the best of luck with Chipper. I know you had some sad times with Buddy. You may want to show that you get treats with meds. It worked for me, it might work for you. Good luck!
