2 Indian Ringneck Parakeets & 1 Red Sided Eclectus
Hi I was given 2 Indian Ringneck Parakeets and I've been working with them for about 3 weeks now. I just want to double check and make sure I'm doing the right thing to tame them. Does any one have any suggestions that would help me out???? They are both 6 months old and are slowly starting to warm up to me but I've never done this with untamed birds before so any helpful hints would be much appreciated.

i am sure others will have better advice, but i'd say take it slow and in time they should trust you :) but please don't be put off if they prefered not to be handled?

sit with them alot! without doin much so they get use to seeing you about, eat in front of them an share your food (that they can eat)

how did your friend etc come by them??

Welcome to the forum. But I feel like we're constantly repeating the same reply over and over. Isn't there something posted in the forum if you want to get a parrot? We should have it posted on how to tame birds in there.

First thing you should do is have their wings clipped. Its easier to train when they can't fly. Next thing is to use a perch training method by holding the perch to their chest and say step up. Keep working at it, they will eventually get it. Giving them treats that they like will help too. Talk to them constantly so they will be used to you. Some are curious enough they will come out on their own. Sometimes its easier to train one at a time when they're separated, its not as easy to train when there's two of them together.
