BEST cage cleaning technique!!!

Hey guys, Anna here with the best cage cleaning technique EVER!!!!!
Sprite loves dirtying his playtop I cleaned it a few days ago and WOW does this work!!!
Heres some step-by-step directions!
1. Take whatever your cleaning out of your birds age and bring it to the sink/tub (depending on the size)
2. Rinse it a couple of times.
3. Take some lemon juice and pour some over the thing that your cleaning (make sure you really get the spots where the poop is most. When your cleaning a tray I usually put some water on the tray then lemon juice in the water so that you dont have to use the whole container )
4. Get some baking soda and put it on the poopy spots. Wait a couple of minutes (fizzing is normal.)
5. After you wait, your ready to get the poop off. Take a brush (short bristles, like a nail brush or a tooth brush) and just scrub the baking soda off.
6. The poop should come off easily!! After this, rinse it WELL.


Your bird will thank you for such a clean cage and you will thank yourself for reading this! Its so quick and easy!!!

great idea! I live in Fl so for me it's easy to wheel the cages outside and power wash them, but those folks up north can stick it in the tub and do your idea! Thanks.

I use the same method, except I spray a little Poop-Off on the heavily pooped on areas and let the cage items soak in hot water in my tub for a few minutes. The poop doesn't even need a scrub to come off.
*However* ... Poop-Off is NOT cheap! I might just give your lemon juice and baking soda a try!

I was using poop off as well, I love it, but like you said, it's not cheap. So now i just have vinegar and water in the poop off spray bottle, it works almost as well as long as you let it sit for a minute before wiping it off. Unfortunately ziggy's cage is too big to fit through our door ways without taking it apart so I can't take it outside to power wash or put it in the tub. I end up putting the grate and the pan in the shower and then scrub everything else by hand. It's not the most time efficient but if gets the job done.

Poop-off is really really expensive. i got some wipes for free with my flight suit but I think my mom accidentally threw them away

Sounds very good. No respectable bird person would throw away an old toothbrush!!

I also use a power washer on the cages but when its cold, like it is now, I put them in the truck and take them to the car wash. You sould see the looks I get from the other folks there when I haul out the bird cages!!!

Ya I use the same method and for now I don't need other. Best one!

Some great ideas here thanks . I searched on the forum not to long ago for methods and found a thread where a lot of people are using steamers so I was planning on picking one up off amazon as soon as I get a flight date. I figured I would spring for a decent one and get the floor attachments and so forth so I could use it all around the house and not just the bird cage.
