Would This Work For A CAG

Ok so Otis is almost never in his cage. The only time we put him in there is when we are sleeping or if we are leaving the house for more than an hour. We have left him out when we left the house for short time periods and he is always sitting in the same place when we come back...LOL

I have a chance to get this cage for free. It is in new condition. Do you think it would be ok for him?

The only reason I like a cage like this is that i'm a neat freak and clean my cages at least once a week. This cage he has is soooo heavy and I can't clean it by myself.

I don't know what the bar spacing is for that. I would worry about him getting his head stuck between the bars if its bigger than an inch.

Also is the coating over the bars easy to peel? (if it has a coating.) Because your birds beak may try to peel the paint off it.

Darn, I didn't even think about the finish. I just wish the bird cages didn't weigh a ton...LOL. Otis needs to start pulling his weight around the house and move the cages for me...HAHAHA

Oh I know the feeling, I just put a huge one together for my Macaw. my CAG's have cages on wheels though so its not so hard to push them out and sprey down with the hose.

What type of cages do you have for your CAGS?

Well, it's a nice big cage, but it's designed for smaller beaks I think. Most of those types of cages aren't very strong and CAGs can chew and gnaw, that's for sure. It might last awhile but Otis might also pop the bars loose. I got my cage on ebay for $190 shipped, although I also think for most CAGs it's on the small side. But, Merlin is blind and better off in a smaller cage so it's working well for her, and she likes it and has enough room to flap her wings and do acrobatics from the top of the cage.

If you go on ebay and type in African Grey macaw cockatoo cage it will show up. I can't post ebay links here and get them to work or I'd do it for you.

Well honestly he doesn't do anything in his cage. I have 4 perches in there at different locations and he only uses two, and he never goes to the bottom of the cage. So even something smaller wouldn't bother him to much. He spends all his time on his play stand. I say he is only in his cage for maybe 7 hours in a 24 hour period. I even try to let him sleep later in the morning but he will start shouting "Open the door" and I must do as I am told....LOL

I will say this for it, it is very, very easy to clean. And the powder coating did test safe (which I had to do because she was gnawing on the grate). She likes being low to the ground so she is very happy with it. And the playtop comes off so I can set that on a low table for her.

Ok, Merlin is definitely a ground dweller and is on the bottom of the cage more than in the top. She usually sleeps in the top, but a few times she decided to sleep at the bottom and eventually went up sometime in the middle of the night. She naps at the bottom as well.

I have a kings cage and an A& E cage for my birds. But they have some good ones on Ebay for 190-300 dollars that you could get with wheels. Mine are only out in the afternoon though so I make sure they have a nice big cage to play in (and destroy their toys)

Yes, mine are not exactly getting along and all want to be with me when they are out, so they are out one at a time. Merlin and Rowdy have both attacked Pete.

I also have an A&E cage that I bought for my BCC and now Pete lives in it. I like Merlin's better, lol! That whole cage only takes like 10 minutes to disinfect. The way the bars are on the A&E, it takes much longer to get in between them all. I would buy this cage again in a heartbeat (the ebay one).

I would like to get Merlin a King's aluminum cage at some point so she can have a grate again. I will then give her cage to Rowdy if I can get her to move in.

OMG, you are right! I thought it was one of those flight cages for small birds and for chincillas and ferrets.

I would also worry about a CAG being able to break the bars on that cage. Plus since it's made for cats, not birds the finish may not be bird safe.

I think this cage is even too small for a cat (including his tail)... I would be great for rats, though...

The King's aluminum cages are lightweight and very durable...They also knock down without tools if you need to transport it...The down side is that they can be pricey.
