Repurposing other animal cages?

I'm still learning about parrots, especially the caging for one. I was wondering if I'd be able to repurpose my relatively large ferret cage (kaytee ferret cage I believe it was called I know it's Kaytee but I can't remember the specific model) into a parrot cage (for maybe a couple conures?) I'd take out the ramps and platforms most likely and replace them with other things if it is do-able.
The bars and an inch wide and are horizontal. I don't know how bar width and direction factor into a parrots needs though.

Note: I don't have any birds right now (and I've never actually owned one) and I don't plan on getting any until I can at least finish schooling which won't be for some time so I'm perfectly open to saving money for a proper cage

Another note: I don't actually use that cage for ferrets since I believe parts of it are a little too small for a full grown ferret (i.e: the slide thing) so I currently use it for adult rats (which I likely won't have by the time I'm ready to get a bird).

I'm all for repurposing in most cases, however I would discourage using the ferret cage for two conures for several reasons. It probably isn't a great idea to house two conures in the same cage. Parrots do better with their own private space. The small gauge wire of the ferret cage is not sturdy enough for most parrot beaks, even conures are likely to chew the paint off the wire. The set up is another problem, your conures will need a variety of perches, toys and food dishes, food doors that open out are the most convenient. It's easier to attach perches and toys to cages built for parrots. I think you and your future companions will be happier with an appropriate parrot cage. Minimum size would be 24" X 24" but if possible I would go with something larger, bar spacing should be 3/4" or 7/8".

Would any of these cages be good? I went through and found a bunch of supplies that'd I'd need a bit ago so I could get an average price to aim for. These are a couple cages I thought would be appropriate at the time but now I'm not sure.

Your first link doesn't open for me.

The only problem with the cage in the second link is the dimensions, 20"X 24" limits the usable space, it's 60" height is nice but most parrots tend to use the space in the upper half of the cage. Just my opinion, I think bigger is usually best for cages.

This should be perfect for what you're looking for. But as said above I'd advise against putting two together. This cage is a great cage as I have had it and would buy it again. I upgrade to an aluminum cage and that's why I moved on from this cage.

You could of course go ahead and get a play top for it as well and it'll cost you the same amount if not less than what you were looking at from PetSmart.

Check out King Cages as well. A lot of people swear by them.

I would go larger than 20X24 as I do not find that to be nearly large enough for even the smallest conure. All of my conure cages are at least 24 deep and 30 wide. They are active little guys and use every bit of space you can give them

Wouldn't a 20"x24" be sufficient if they spend plenty of time outside of the cage?
