Best Cage brand and / or websites to shop for a new cage for my Amazon

I've had my Double Yellow Headed Amazon now for 23 years. The first cage I bought for her when I first got her was a Prevue Hendryx and it was powder coated, but lasted 18 years and was very sturdy and well built. I decided to upgrade and get a larger cage about 4 years ago, and went with one I found on the Hayneedle website, which is an Avian Adventures Mediana Playtop Bird Cage. Unfortunately, it has already begun to get chipped in the areas where she likes to rub her beak when she eats, or higher traffic areas that she uses on her way out to the playtop, which she uses every day.

I've wrapped the chipped areas with vet medical tape in the meantime, but I need to get a new cage to get her and I'm not seeing too many promising options that look like they're good quality.

After the experience with the Avian Adventures one I have, I'm not sure that I would get another cage of the same brand. I have already looked up and went onto the King's Cages website, and unfortunately, the only powder coated playtop cage that is the size I want and is in my budget is a coppertone color, which I don't want. I am having a hard time finding the other brand we had for 18 years, Prevue Hendryx, online that looks like it is a good quality. It seems quality has gone down hill with mostly all of the cages, so I wanted to see if anyone has some personal experience on the brands I'm seeing on Bird Cages for Less website or Wayfair.

The one that looks best to me is on Bird Cages for less and is a Koloa Kavern brand. It's the right dimensions, but the bar spacing is 5/8" for some reason. I know 3/4" - 1" bar spacing is ideal, but I'm not seeing that for this cage size. I suppose that bat spacing should work for an Amazon?

There's another on Wayfair that is make by Tucker Murphy Pet and is a Cineas model.

Any experiences with brands or models, or if there are other websites you've shopped on that are reputable (for cages or toys) would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums! I purchased my Prevue cage from Chewy. I know many others here have used Bird Cages for Less and have been happy with them.

Can you paste links to the two cages you mentioned? Maybe some Amazon owners can check them out and give input.

I have used BirdCages4Less for years.

They are one of the three bird cage manufacturers and like the other two are located in China. As stated, I have purchased from them for a longtime, at least thirty years. Go to their website and take a look at "Cages for Amazons"

- Target the largest rectangle cage you have room for.
- Target a flat top with a play area as it provides yet another perch area.
- Look only at those cages with a very large vertical cage door!! They make life so much easier to clean and service.
- Order additional cage bowls as for whatever reason the industry switches size and shapes and you will be at a lose to get more later.
- I alway buy the 'toy package' with the cage as the toys are at reasonable cost.
- Remember that perches you will be getting need to be larger diameters as your older Amazon's claws will appreciate the easier, larger perch surfaces (natural branches, not dowels).
- Always have your Amazon help you putting it together!! They become more interested in moving in!

FYI: The other reason I like BirdCages4Less is they sell little else and as a result, the shipping department knows what boxes go with each other for your cage!! Plus, they have their name to protect and they have their staff in their facility making sure their cages are built correctly.

FYI: Assemble the cage upside down as installing the wheels will be much easier! I alway use a large thick bath towel as it just makes it easier to turn it when you are assembling it on a non-carpet surface.

Regarding Cage Brands!
No One Is building their own cages. They all are having one of the three China manufactures build for them. As a result, The big names of the past, are little more than resellers now a days!

Amazon sells a beautiful Prevue hendrix stainless steel play top cage the dimensions you want with 1 inch bar spacing for $904. Amazon site calls it a large cockatiel cage but it's great for an Amazon or grey. Look for "stainless steel large Prevue birdcage"

I use wayfair . They often have A&E if other top brand names on sept discounts under their name. If you find a cage you like look er the comments, often someone will say the actual snd brand. Also, look up the priduct number sometimes it gives a hint like A&E might say AE 12456etc . Or just get the measurements and descriptions d put it in google to find what company the cage was actually made by. You c add n as k sad I get free financing that’s helpful too .
