Vets tomorrow! Claws Clipped and beak possibly...

Has anyone else here had their caiques claws or beak trimmed by a vet? My little man doesnt like new people at all and will only allow people he trusts to touch him or for him to sit on them....anyone else will get bitten very hard so i reckon the vets gonna have a tough time lol.

Anyone got any ideas to help the anger when i get home, as i am pretty sure he will be in a mood for a long time lol.

I had Cha-Cha's beak and nails tripped at the vets a couple of days ago. She wasn't happy at being towelled by a ( very nice) lady vet before the procedure.

I wasn't happy as they prefer to use a little gas on the bird before they begin. But it went off well. And Cha Cha rapidly regained her usual self and shrugged off the experience in ten minutes.

( But we will see when we have to go back in 6 months time)

They will put him in a towel to do it. It will keep him still and keep anyone from being bitten. Don't worry, they are very good at it and have a lot of experience handling birds that don't know or trust them. As for how he acts in the towel, I guess you will find out! Rowdy will totally relax and lay back calmly once she in it. Pete gets very upset about his feathers getting messed up by it, and will preen obsessively afterwards. He will also keep checking his toenails and toes like he wants to be sure they are still there. Merlin squawks like crazy in the towel, but then after she is fine.

I've never had a vet give a bird gas.

The only one I've had get mad at me for taking them to the vet is Pete. But, I think it was the ride home with severe winds that was actually the most upsetting part. It sounded like a tornado going around my truck, and we saw 2 trucks get flipped right off the highway. He was upset for 3 days afterward. I suspect if the ride home had been so traumatic for him, he would have been fine though.
