White Bellied Caique- coming home in June/July!
Full album of pictures :]
I'm trying to decide between two cages for my WB baby ill be bringing home in June.

One is a square (22x22?) play top and the other is a (24x17?) dome top. I don't remember the exact dementions, but I'm curious to everyone's preference from one type to another.

My boyfriend likes the dome top because it can be opened to allow a perch at the top and there are doors that fold down so toys can be attached and he can still play if we decide not to handle him the second we open the doors for him --which I have heard is good to do.. Not handle him right away so he isn't so hyper? Is this valid?

Anyhow,
I personally like the play top, it's pretty simple with just a perch on top and I think one cup but I like the idea of the flat top because he/she can dilly dally with some foot toys. I find it to be a more entertaining cage.

We have space for both, and the price is so close it's not helping in being a deciding factor.

I prefer done tops as there is more room to move around and then you can add peices of java on top or rope perches to make it playgym like, plus have all the room inside. My caique is In a 30x24 I believe are the deminsions.

Largest cage you can afford / fit in your house is best. My cage is huge for my caique (not sure of dimensions) and he really does use every bit of it.

My new WBC Pepe, is in a 34 x 26. He has yet to use all the space as we have him for only 3 weeks, but he is a pleasure, and his Caigue-ness expands everyday. One of our favorite times is when he prepares his bed every night and the sounds he make are adorable. He also showers with me. My family laughs at the size of me with my little Pepe in the shower. LOL.

Congrats on your new avian friend!

I looked over my caiques cage and I actually lessened it, it is 34x26 I didn't realize it was that large, although it is a flat top..

I'd say that anything bigger then this is not needed really and finding something larger then that with apprioate bar spacing would be difficult.

I agree, go for the biggest you can afford(with proper bar spacing!).

What JTbirds has sounds excellent for a Caique

Neither. Caiques are active birds and I honestly wouldn't recommend a cage smaller than 32 x 23 or 32 x 21 for a caique.

I hate this feature of cages.... it's a danger waiting to happen for some. Unless you have a way to secure the doors shut from the inside and a way to lock them open besides that dang perch, I don't ever recommend purchasing a cage for that feature! I've already heard of one death caused by a cage like this, and believe me, one was more than enough! I don't want to hear of any others.
