Not sure if I put this in the right place so feel free to move it.

Id like to get another cockatiel to keep Yoshi company while Im gone and I certainly wouldnt mind having another one around :D

But Im concerned that Yoshi wont get along with the new comer. She definitely doesnt get along with my budgies.

Im not sure what to do. If getting her a friend is going to make her upset then it's really not worth it.

Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you decide? How did it go?

I ended up getting three friends for my tiel over time. My tiel still is my best friend but it just gives him some company when I am not at home. I started with one parakeet and they didn't get along at all. I didn't plan for them to ever get along because I just really liked the parakeet and wanted him as a friend. I rescued two other parakeets from a neighbor and all three parakeets got along. The parakeets then took over the tiels cage. At first, my tiel hated the parakeets and would not really want them in the cage. Over time the cockatiel got used to the parakeets and know he really likes having them in his cage.

Introducing a new friend to your cockatiel, or any bird for that matter; is unfortunately a process of trial and error. You never know how it will turn out.

If you're going through with this, you have to be careful in introducing the new bird to your existing flock. For the first few days, keep them in seperate cages, and allow them to 'chat'. Next, move them closer for another couple of days. Keep moving them closer until the cages are nearly touching. After some few days of that, you can very carefully introduce them on the same perch, or playstand. Don't do it on the bird's cage, because he or she may become possessive and show agression toward the other. Watch them interact, and stay in the same room at all times to prevent possible fighting. This is the true test of the birds' compatability with one another.

Best wishes!
