..ok..BB's relentless attemp to hump my hand,I can deal with, but NOW he has a new shtick that I will NOT tolerate and must be nipped in the bud!

He is a velcro birdie and is on my shoulder 98% of the time, which is fine by me,but now he picks/bites/nibbles/pulls on little hairs of my neck! This I can not tolerate and wont!

Besides forbidding him to be on my shoulder ( I like it coz he often puts his little beaky against my cheek and he sings his sweet songs in my ear lol)
WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP THIS????

Sorry Jim. Where it comes to the shoulder I think it’s basically all or nothing. Shoulder might have to be forbidden territory from now on. I’m not sure you can microtrain what you are looking for. The only way might simply be to let B.B. up and when he picks, immediately out him down somewhere else.

African Grey Timneh
I have an issue with my ears being touched. After six surgeries and 30 years of never even getting water in them I can’t be touched. Timneh has never bitten my ear hard and actually is really gentle but I still can’t have it. So every time she touches my ear no matter how sweet she is being she gets a short time out on her perch. This has worked for us but with an african grey but I noticed I have to be very consistent no exceptions. This is also an odd suggestion but what about shaving or using a hair remover product. Hope you guys can figure it out.

Well Bill I have worn a beard/mustache for nearly forty years lol coz I don't like to shave lol,but when it is time for a haircut, I have my beard/stash shaved to a mere stubble. The hairs Beebers is yanking/chewing at is my lower neck,in the back.
Whats that crap the chicks use to remove unwanted hair?? Oh NAIR!
Yaa I'll get some of THAT stuff...

Well I guess when he does pick I'll have to be diligent and consistent and remove him.

Luckily tiels are more plain sailing with the shoulder since they're happy to just sit up there. Until they want to wrestle with your ears and hands. BB has a pecking order in a high place that's "his". It's a safe domain. So to get him to earn that spot maybe practice some taming activities like stepping up. When he starts pecking just take him off your shoulder, distract him with other stuff, put him in a cage for a cooling off. Usually when molting, hormonal or quick movements Baby will peck at me just a little, then he'll stop or I take him off for a bit.

Or you know, a scarf can work too.

Jim, Salty sometimes like to use my ear as a handhold. Nope, uh-uh, not happening son. He immediately gets taken off and time out on the chair back. He is slowly getting the message. Now, if I get up unexpectedly, thats different but just idle "Hmm this looks interesting " kind of nibbling, no way. I let Salty preen my eyebrows and mustache and sideburns, and I shave almost every day. How about turtleneck shirts for awhile until this phase passes?

Hi Jim.

Is it your hair or the unwanted hairs on the back of your neck? They are painful when pulled.
If it’s the latter you can have your hairstylist or barber shave them when they cut your hair.

Good Luck.

All good advice folks, thanks. It just started within the last week. It seems he has shifted his interest from boxing with my ear lobe to this picking/biting thing.
With him,it is either my hand,or my shoulder. I'd HATE to deprive him of his two favorite spots on me that he likes lol.
When he gets "randy" with my hand,to my shoulder he goes. If he is on my computer desk,he'll run up my arm...to my shoulder...or down my shoulder to my hand.

Amy doesn't give a rat's patoot if she is on my shoulder or not, unless we are in the car, then she gets a birds-eye-view out the windows.

I feel kind of sorry for the little fluff boy. When he does do these things that agro me and I sternly chastise him :57: and he finally gets the message, his little hat goes up in the air,he stands kind of erect, and his eyeballs get wide :15: and he doesn't make a peep!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
How about a "bird shirt" with a collar that can be turned-up, making a barrier to the hairs? BB would be on he outer part of the fabric?

Lots of great ideas here. Since it’s hair, you can have it removed. Go to your local beauty college and have it waxed or “sugared.” It’s not too painful and it will cost a lot less than going to a salon for the same service. It won’t leave stubblenand will take longer to grow back than shaving. I wouldn’t try to Nair the back of my own neck-that sounds like a great way to remove the hair on the back of your head!

Bumble likes to try and remove all the tiny moles/growths/etc. on my neck. YEOUCH! I bought a cheap hoodie ($12 in Amazon) and she can’t get to my neck anymore. I’ll have to come up with a new solution by the end of July when it stops being hoodie weather here in the Pacific NorthWET.

Hi Tami..

Yes it is the unwanted itty-bitty hairs hairs, right at the base of my neck, where the neck starts to meet the collarbone.
I was thinking of this, and it seems the little PITA has turned his attention from boxing with my earlobe to this. Not sure which one is the worse of two evils!

Great ideas and fun to read!

Also, you could just wear your hair down, like I do!
