Folger is really not fond of me right now:54: I got the new collar from the shelter today and slipped it on him...turned out to be too big and he flipped a bit. Took it off...thought I was going to break his neck:eek: Had to push his head through while pulling on the collar. I guess it's lucky he actually likes me most of the time:) Cut it down to size a bit and he was more accepting even though he did give me the evil eye:rolleyes:

Not the best pics couldn't get him to sit still...

So we shall see how this works out:20:

That collar is adorable! I hope he gets used to it quickly:)

He threw nuts back at her, was quite funny. The collars have worked wonders for shelter babies. One of the volunteers makes them and offered to make Folger one, she is the volunteer who nicknamed him the vampire :) but she's been so happy hearing the stories and thought her collar might help. So here's to hoping it will work for him and break this cycle!!

Keeping my fingers crossed that he starts to love it (or even just tolerate it!).
He looks adorable in it, love all the colours in it.

The woman does amazing work... talk about creative talents!! She makes a vest with kevlar for two Mollucans who mutilated chests. I can cut and tie fleece, but that's about it :)

That is SO much better than a plastic e-collar from the vet!:D honestly that is super cute and flattering!
Like Terry said, hoping he likes it or at least will tolerate it.

I would love to get Dusty something like that to help with his picking! I tried cutting a sock on him. It was angry birds themed so it fit that being that he was angry and he ended up shredding the material in no time...

He looks really cute. Hope he accepts it, and it stops him chomping on himself and lets him break the habit.

Be a good boy, Folger!

Folger is adorable in his new collar! I hope it helps him with his need to pick. It looks *so* much more comfortable and natural than those awful plastic collars from the vet. But now you'll have to teach him to say "Folger's a stylish boy":D

So far he is doing good:) Is eating and drinking with it on and not as angry about it! Even playing with his basket of foot toys. His poor shoulder still looks bad but it is healing up.

I do know he is eating less though so will have to weigh him today and see if he lost any significant amount!

Raven he has for sure:)

I took it off today to give him a bath and give him a break from the collar. And this is the progress so far! Plus, new feathers on his back:D These are right after his bath so he is a little disheveled and wet!

The two major/most recent scabs healing up nicely now! Plus, no new ones with the collar being on. He has been a little more withdrawn wearing the collar but I think it actually stresses him that he can't mutilate his chest/shoulders. Hopefully he gets over that mindset soon....

The back feathers growing in at the moment! On both sides:D He has a bunch under his wings again but he doesn't really want to show me those long enough for a pic...

And pretty much dry now... stuffed himself while sitting on the couch with me..

You'd think he'd look miserable with all that going on, but he looks quite chirpy....

I'm so glad the collar is working. Can't wait to see him all better. Is it likely that he'll break the habit, or will he have to wear the collar permanently?

I'm honestly not sure. Some of the moluccans at the shelter wear a vest or collar because the habit hasn't been broken and they will chew a hole through their chests.

I'm hoping that disrupting the habit long enough breaks him of it and he finds new positive behaviors to replace the mutilation. He does like his basket and his foraging drawer thing but he loses interest fast. So anything more complicated he just ignores. I'm also hoping the fact he stopped plucking on his own means that with some help the mutilation can also be broken! If not I will just have to buy fleece that I like and have a bunch of different collars made for him:)

I hope so too. It may be that there's some irritation from new feathers coming out, or something like that that sets him off. When they are all grown back, he may not have the need to do it if there's some physical "annoyance" that gets him going....

fingers crossed.
