Hello, my name is Alexis and I just have brought home my first cockatoo...he is a goffin and his/her name is Kirby. :white1: Now he is so sweet, he came from a local pet shop where they breed their own birds and take amazing care of them! I've read all I can about G2s..So no problems there at least not yet anyways haha... But after bringing him home i put him in his cage and he was like a little Tasmanian devil.. The place I got him from had him on a playtop cage which is extremely similar to the one I bought him.. But he has been scaling the bars for a while and won't perch long.. Is that normal? But here's a quick picture I got of his cute little crest...

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Welcome and congrats on your cute little goffin. They are *extremely* active birds, so Kirby "bouncing off the walls" is not abnormal;) Have you provided him with lots of shreddable toys and foraging? It's very important to keep any bird busy, but cockatoos especially appreciate ripping stuff up and "foraging for food" (i.e. treats hidden in toys).

Yes of course! He has his toys.. One is identical to the one he loved from his breeder.. And one is a nice rope toy with lots of rope and knots of all colors:D He is so cute and already a love bug.. When we went to pick him up from the store he got so excited and ran across the playtop to get to me:p

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Goffins are awesome! I have 5, and their personalities are distinct. Some are extremely cuddly, a few on their terms, but all are extremely tactile and crave touching.

Give Kirby time to adjust, lots of love, plenty of toys, healthy food, and you'll have a friend for life!

Lucy (B&G Macaw), Phoenix (Camilla Macaw), Gizmo (Goffin Cockatoo),
Rita (Military Macaw),
Mango (Goffin Cockatoo),
When we got our first Goffin someone on here described them to me as "A 2 year old, with severe ADHD....on crack.", and that is about right. They are funny, and have very unique personalities. Though the can be some massive trouble makers. Hence holes in our walls, chewed up furniture, destroyed TV cables, food thrown across the room, flip flops constantly destroyed , destroyed smartphone & 3 smartphone cases, and that is the start lol. I love my macaws, but I guess you could say I am pretty darn fond of Goffins also. Considering we have 3 Macaws and 3 Goffins now lol.

Sounds very familiar, though mine aren't as destructive. Do your Macaws and Goffins comingle? All of my Goffins are buddies with a Moluccan and Citron and get along well. Of course, they are all Cockatoos....!

None of our birds really comingle. Our one rescue Goffin Annie is a plucker, and was kept in a cage with a Greater Sulphur so she will try being nice to Gizmo by preening her but is actually just riping feathers out. Mango our newest Goffin was rescued from the same house as Phoenix, and Annie. Now Annie is normally fine with other birds just curious unless I am holding them then she wants them off her Daddy. With Mango though it is a different story. She will charge across the house trying to attack Mango so we have to keep them totally separated in different parts of the house when they are out which can be a pain because they are out 8 to 10 hours a day. Lucy & Phoenix used to get to play together, but once Phoenix started getting more comfortable he became a butt head and started picking on her at times. They would get separated, but be able to play again a little later. Until one day Phoenix had been being a butt to Lucy earlier on, but they were doing fine at that moment. He started preening himself on one of our Java trees. Lucy scooted close to him like she was going to preen also. As soon as she got right next to him she stuck her foot out, and kicked him off the end of the Java tree branch. After that all our fids were separated except for the cockatiels

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
I had a super neurotic plucking G2 as well. In fact, all the G2's I worked with were other people's problem birds, so I don't know what "normal" is for these little guys.

Active for a too, in my opinion is good.

Our little G2 just sat there, nervously plucking himself raw, and never learned how to play. (Which was why he plucked.) So active, in my mind is a good thing...

I have a family of 5 G2s; two wild-caught parents and 3 offspring. They are quite individual though some basic characteristics apply to all: inquisitive, manipulative of their environment, (and people!) playful, energetic, and extremely tactile - love to be touched, rubbed, scratched all over. Unfortunately they don't all get along; the father became aggressive with his mate and after 2 attacks was separated into a large flight cage. Mother and middle offspring are jealous of the oldest and sweetest offspring and thus share "out" time. Interestingly, the mother and middle baby have bonded and share a cage. Youngest brother is the largest and boldest but gets along with all. After the separation the mother was introduced to her offspring and became very tame to the point she will cuddle and has learned hand-signals to return to her cage. None of the G2s have much vocabulary and aren't terribly noisy. I've had the parents for about 25 years while the offspring are 19, 18, and 16. Medically they have thankfully proven healthy and robust. None are pluckers, though the middle offspring tends to overgroom. They all share a room with a Moluccan, Citron, and Timneh Grey that are never caged. Lots of interspecies grooming save for the Grey who remains aloof and does not socialize. Goffins, like most Cockatoos are very social birds and I suspect many integrative difficulties with families would ease if they were part of a small "flock."

I find G2s to be the ideal match for me; we share a distinct bond closer than any of my other parrots. All 3 offspring have full shoulder access and never "abuse" the privilege!!
