...Jonesie's favorite saying... my newly adopted Goffins. He has been with me since Sunday and is settling in. He found his water bowl and treat bowl saw him munch on peas and corn niblets.

I opened his door last night and he came out in about 10 minutes. Oh he loves out time! he was jumping and flapping his arms and talking away! I was surprised,I sat on the floor at his cage and talked nicely and he allowed me to scratch his head and pet his back and didn't run away.

He stayed out for an hour or so and found his way back in the cage and I closed him in.

This morning I went to feed him, took his bowl out and as soon as I turned my back he was back out the door running to the top of his new home!
More food and fresh water and he let me scratch and pet him more.
This time he actually let me pick him up,with little objection. he ran up my arm to my shoulder and snuggled against my cheek letting me pet him more. After a half hour or so I walked back to his cage and he hopped right off my shoulder onto his house. I bent down and he walked up to me and put his beak to my nose! This guy is soo sweet! He has lost a lot of his down..bare chested in spots. He has a doc appointment Friday. My Blue Front is curious about the new guy.

NNNAAWWW, you are making fantastic progress with Jonesie, Jim! You must be so over the moon. He sounds like quite the little character, and it also sounds as if he's making himself at home rather quickly. :)

Jim, that's great! Jonesie sounds like a lovable little guy. He must be pleased with his new home and new friend. Please let us know how he does at his vet visit.

Maybe Amy will also be charmed by her new flock mate.

Jonesy and Amy did fine at the vet! YIPPIIEEE!! I was surprised on how calm Jonesy was,he didn't fuss at all. He had his wings clipped and nails.

The doc said there is not much that can be done with his plucking. He eats a variety of food and he looks happy here, dancing and strutting and being vocal. She said its just a cockatoo "thing". I don't see him plucking here, but I know he was at his P.O. home, over stress about his Umbrella.

Jonesy weighed in at 279 g's where my little piggy Amy was 507!

Both have strong sounding hearts and lungs. Only time will tell.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
You are both off to a great start! While it is controversial, I allow all of my tame birds shoulder privileges - as long as they don't abuse it. They seem to understand the difference between nipping a finger vs the face.

Jonesy seems to trust, and that is more than half the battle with a new cockatoo. That he is happy to return to the cage is a very good sign, as some cockatoos can become "velcro birds" and get VERY unhappy when removed from their human friends.

Hopefully he will have less incentive to pluck!

Tonight,he was in the kitchen with me and my buddy Joe,playing setback..he helped me play by taking a card from my hand, and promptly put holes in it with his beak! I offered him his own card and he joyfully chewed it to shreds.

I looked at his chest closely and I can definitely notice the fluff on it has greatly improved. I guess he likes where he is and is healing rather quickly :))
