So what's the major difference from the Mollucan Cockatoo and other Cackatoo's aside from them being the largest of the Cockatoos?

Most noticeably, the (((((NOISE))))) factor !!!!!!!, also, in my own experience with Moluccan's is they can tend to be a one person or one gender bird very easily if not well socialized at a very young age, and still thats no gurantee they won't be....if you never want to be chastised by the birdie police.....pronounce it MOE-LUCK-EN and not MA-LOU-KIN as so many do, also makes ya look bird savy ;)

Having attended a educational class for large bird care I would say the M. toos are a big bird and big personality to handle. We were told by the instructor that they should only be handled by people that are experienced in large bird care. are you looking to get one? There are many for adoption because these birds are often surrendered for this reason.

They are the loudest of the toos also. We had a room with 3 of them and you could not hear what was being said.

I agree with SB :), they are a bird for the experienced BIG bird handler, with small kids in the house this wouldn't be a bird I would recommend, Moluccan's like most all other Too's are very demanding and will let you know VOCALLY when they don't get the attention they feel they deserve, Moluccans and Umbrellas are very popular as pets, but sadly they are also two of the Cockatoo species you most see in rescue shelters :31:

As a large Too owner and retired zoo worker, I highly recommend you do not get an M2. Especially if you have only seen one. The Major Mitchells IMHO should not be in pet homes, especially males.
Large Toos require double macaw cages, lots of activity and toys and a very experienced person. There are so many in rescue centers due to the fact people get in over the heads.

Hey GC, I think she was just species curious, I only suggested looking at a MM2 for its beauty, not that she should buy one :p, besides the price usually scares em off anyway.....lol

In our house we are 2 M2'S, m&f, not bonded pair and 2 macaws. It is VVEEEERRRYYY LOOOUUUD! my sister and hubby come to visit and bring their own earplugs. I usu reccomend for overnite visitors to bring their own set ;). I love them dearly and they do well with me but they are very emotionally needy creatures. They have incredible personalities and require a lot of face time, lots of personal development time....Their language is different than macaw language and their body language is also different. I cannot address the inter species language differences b/w cockies having no experience there. They feel like owls when you hold them. Soft and fluffy....absolutely amazing. You just want to hold them and kiss them and bury your face in their necks....

Our pet shop that has several outdoor aviaries and other animals has a Mollucan by the tellers and he isn't caged. This boy can talk and talk and scream and scream - he makes the funniest sounds that you can imagine. And oh boy he is LOUD you definitely need earplugs for this one.
