Saddest and Sweetest Pic

Right after heading out to work the other day, my brother sent me this pic.

He was in the living room with my mother when I left, so I left Willow out of her cage, as usual. He said the soon as I went to leave she climbed down and watched me drive down the driveway, then just kind of stood there like this for a while.

Another one from last night, the family is out in MO for Thanksgiving, (and folks headed back to FL) so poor Willow had to spend 14 hours at home in her cage. (Cats/dog were there too, and I left her a radio playing) luckily only had to do it for 1 day, but I feel terrible.

Anyway, I went to get her when I got home, which of course she wanted to be mad at me, but she couldn't. (She refused to step up for a minute) I got her downstairs and put her on her other cage, and before I could even move my hand, she lays her head down on my hand and closes her eyes, letting out a relieved "coo" sound.

Melts your heart.

Of course she noticed me pulling out the phone and opened her eyes and started to lift her head the second I took the pic, but close enough I suppose.

It's beautiful to see how deeply Willow loves you, but it's even more beautiful to see how deeply you love and care for her. So many gorgeous cockatoos are left alone in cages by owners who don't give them a second thought. Yours and Willow's love story is a perfect example of how it should work.

Honestly I feel I got lucky with a non-screaming, non-plucking, less-neurotic than most U2. She still has he mood swings from time to time, and occasionally can get nippy, but I really do feel like I got lucky. I had a lot of worries and doubt going into the process, but I got a great bird.

Justine Is doing something like this to me now. I just noticed it when I got back from my thanksgiving trip to texas. I had to board her for the week but when I got back she seemed like she wanted me to pet her more and when I have to run out to do an errand, instead of stepping down back in the cage she runs up my arm.. I have to try a few times until she steps down..

Yeah.

I call that "clingy bird syndrome."

Every time I board them, or go away for a few days, when I come back I get a few days of "NEVER LEAVE AGAIN... PLEASE DON'T PUT ME DOWN... I THOUGHT I LOST YOU. I WAS AFRAID YOU WERE NEVER COMING BACK... "

Then after a couple of days we're back to normal.

Lot's of people make their own luck... Easiest bird in the world to inadvertently train to scream.

Hold them too much, you can never set them back down, etc.

And if you don't teach them to self entertain, by age 5, you are in hell!

Raise them right, and these sorts of things are much less problematic, and they tend to still have all their feathers, and are more emotionally stable.

So, most likely, it means you're doing something right!
