Light Bulb

I need to replace the bulbs in there cage lamps.

Last time I bought the 21 Watt Feather Brite bulbs - 30 each with shipping.

I saw these on Amazon 4 for $19.00

ALZO 27W Joyous Light Full Spectrum CFL Light Bulb 5500K, 1300 Lumens, 120V, Pack of 4, Daylight White Light.

Will these be OK for my cockatoos.

That is not a favored light bulb in my book. They are a true pain to clean. And, a real pain if your break one. Web Search what is required if you break one. The cheaper ones will flicker and we all know what a pain that is to deal with.

If you have a Big Box Store near you, I would recommend visiting their light bulb section. Ask about a full spectrum LED bulb. Look like and cleans like a standard light bulb. I 'believe' they are available in full spectrum. Once you seen them you can get the product number and shop online if you wish. Look for the smooth surface not the textured surface type.

As with any long life bulbs, wear gloves when you install them.

Agreed! I know bulbs are a controversial subject, but all I use are the full spectrum or the bright daylight! They are inexpensive, I am not trying to supplement vitamin D for my birds I get a lot of outside time and the bulb works well!

If you're near a Menard's, they have a full spectrum lamp with an inexpensive bulb that last for EVER and both together were less than $30.

Those bulbs don't do a thing to tell you guys the truth! Do a quick search in the past postings within the forums and you'll see what I'm talking about. I also did a deep research on it before as the bulb companies are just trying to make a buck with vets backing them up to just make money.

As you noted, prior Threads did clearly state that Full Spectrum Light Bulbs are not a source of Vit D. I do not believe that was the intent of this Thread. I will let the OP clarify if I am wrong in that.

This discussion was, once again to my understanding, regarding the specific type of Full Spectrum Light Bulb, the Twisted Tube Style, which are quickly being replaced by the LED versions. The twisted tube style is a true pain to clean, tend to buzz and God Forbid you break one. LED's are less expensive to operate and have a much longer operating life.

People will continue to use the 4' tubes until the fixture fails and they are out looking for replacements. Since LED's can use standard light bulb fixtures, with time the 4' tubes will fade away into history. This is especially true in home applications where the 4' tubes have a more industrial look to them.

Full Spectrum Light does provide a more 'natural' light color and Humans see this as being more White than historical light bulbs that had a more Yellow cast to them. LEDs are available in this Yellow cast also.
