I haven't had any luck researching this sound.

Sometimes when my greys are trying to settle something I'll hear a loud SMACK sound coming from one of them. They do it to me too when they don't want me close; is this a dominance thing, a fear thing, or what?
Thanks.

When my CAG makes that sound it's a warning. She usually uses it when she is scared by something or being annoyed by one of the dogs or a small child.

I agree. Mine is usually a startle or a "I don't know what that is and I don't like it" or "Don't come near me right now"

Thanks. I'll have to get it on tape, because his body language confuses me. He puffs up, then puts his head down, tilted slightly but keeping his eyes on my hand. When I reach for the offered head, I pet him once and then he backsteps and clacks. Maybe he wants attention but changes his mind?
