Beak Injury Questions

Hello. I have a roughly 1 week old Congo African Grey baby that was bitten by its foster mom. (Mom is eat the babies after a week old. We were trying a proven foster mom with the babies today & watching closely. Foster mom didn't like the littlest baby.) The injury is on the top of the beak and the beak is still attached. I've gotten the bleeding stopped. It is about half the beak. It starts about 2/3 of the way up the beak on the left side and goes to about 1/4 (or less) of the way in on the right side of the beak. I've already pulled the little guy and sibling for handfeeding. Is there anything I should for him in addition to heat, handfeeding?

Thanks so much! I hope the little guy will be ok.

Do all momma birds do that? I hope I wont have to pull the babies out after 1 week from being born... (Nanday conures) What about the dad? are they mean to the babies? will i have to pull the dad from the cage? Thats a lot of feeding and work...
-.- lol.

Have to called a vet and spoke with them about it? If not I think you should set an apointment asap... You dont have to rush him to the ER or anything... but if he's not in distress screaming or anything just set an appointment and see what the vet says.
Good Luck!

Certainly not.

I am not well versed on breeding or when/if the young are separated from the parents, but healthy parrots will take good care of their young.

I'd also say, in regard to the original question, see a vet.

I agree with AD to see a vet - just to prevent infection or more serious injury - and to check if any extra help is needed.
