My Mother always watched Gandalf for me when I would go on vacation. It was no sacrifice on his part, because he was infatuated with her.

My first vacation away from Bitty is coming up and I was a bit worried. She let her scratch her before, but you never know, right?

Well, my Mother came over to see me last night, and Bitty was awe struck. She ended up clowning around hanging off of the cage and all of the other sill stuff parrots do when they see someone they want.

I explained to my Mom how to let Bitty back into her cage if she were to fly off. (If you pull out the grate, she climbs back up through the opening into the cage...pretty smart.)

She ended up falling off of the cage (she can be so clumsy!). I wanted to test out her stepping up, so I let my Mom do it. Bitty got right up on her finger! Of course she did the "flapping wings while engaging in a deathgrip" thing, but it was great to see.

Now I don't have to worry about my Mom not being able to get Bitty back into her cage. So she can have some out of cage time. I'm going to be sweating in the Alabama sun for 9 days, but I won't be sweating bullets over Bitty's safety.

If your mom is anything like you Norf, then you need not worry at all. Sounds like a match made in heaven.
You go and sweat in the sun for 9 glorious days, thinking of you.
Imagine how bitty is going to react when you return
Enjoy yourself

I hope it is a nice vacation for you and not a working one. Does you Mom have any birds? A bird would make a nice Mom's day gift for her. It is so valuable to be able to leave home for a while knowing your bird will be well cared for. That is why I stay home.

My Mother does not have birds, but she does love animals in general. She's more of a cat person. I'll upload a wonderful picture I took of her and her cat when I get home from work.

I do my best to prepare lists of stuff and phone numbers for her while I'm gone. At the very least, I know I can trust her. Though we did laugh about me setting up a "nanny cam" on the web so I can make sure she isn't starving Bitty of her NANNERS. :D

She loves my parrots, but not their mess. She and Gandalf weren't "touching buddies" as she puts it, as she definitely respected the beak, but she did pick him up from time to time when he was being exceptionally sweet and behaving himself.

When I had back surgery, I lived with them for a while. She definitely fell for the little twerp too. She taught him a bunch of ridiculous show tunes. Just wrong haha. :D

Oh, and no way is it a work vacation. I am going fishing for 9 days. I will probably crisp up like a piece of bacon fat in a hot skillet, but it will sure beat working.

Good luck with the fishing. Will eat some of what you catch?

Oh definitely. Mostly catch and release during the week, but at the end of the get-together we usually have a big fish fry.

Unfortunately, the area I'm heading to was very hard hit by tornadoes yesterday. I hope everybody down there is okay, and it won't be a disaster area when we get there. On the practical side, I guess they can really use our tourist money to help rebuild.
