RIP Pi - Sun Conure 02/06/11 - 09/10/11
Pi was given a gift card (it even had her name on it!) to buy toys and stuffs with a couple weeks ago and some of her stuff came in today! She's got a new cage which is absolutely HUGE. It was bigger than I expected, nearly as large as Hannibal's cage was, in fact. She's also got several new toys, a pedi-swing and a happy hut. She's actually sleeping in the happy hut right now and omg is it ever cute! I wish I could get a pic but I don't want to disturb her.

She has not screeched once since I moved her into the new cage. She did however play with her foot toys for the first time ever! She's got a few more things coming in sometime this week. Someone is also rehoming a GCC and I thought about introducing them but I'm not sure. I love that Pi loves ME and wants to cuddle with ME but I sometimes feel bad because I can't snuggle her while I'm working and now she's in that enormous cage all by herself. I don't want her to be lonely but I also don't want to lose her to a feathery mate. Hmm. I think I'm just going to see how things go. So far, so good. She seems like a really happy little bird. :orange:

What kind of toys did you get for her? Lucy has a cat ball with a bell in it she's starting to play with... but she'd rather preen me and my boyfriend lol

She's got three cat balls with the little bells in them. She will pick them up with her beak and fling them around the cage. lol

She has something called a birdy babble ball. Its this red ball that makes various sounds whenever she plays with it. Supposedly it will help her learn to talk. So far it just scares the crap out of everyone by randomly making weird noises.

She's got one of those boing thingies, a swinging pedi-perch that I can also take out of the cage and turn into a rolling perch so she can practice balancing. A shooting star, a kabob that she's slowly destroying ... Another kabob toy I found in the rodent section of Petco ... You can put pieces of fruit and veggies on it instead of putting them in a dish. She loves that. And then she's got four of those toys you find in Walmart with the brightly colored pieces of wood and the bells on the end. She likes to demolish those and they're really cheap so that works out nicely.

Its nearly 9 am and she's still snuggling in her happy hut. Lazy butt. I think that one is her favorite.

awwe :) I have most of those things, we're trying to figure out what we can give her to play with... feels like she's got PLENTY in the cage, but everything i look at for foot toys are for big birds like macaws and toos, nothing the right size for a conure... :/

4 Cockatiels 2 males Chicken Little & Charlie, 2 Females Chiquita and Sweet pea. Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure -Franklin and our now tame, rescued feral Pigeon - Belle.
I picked up a happy hut for our Franklin a couple weeks ago and oh does he ever love it too! He sleeps in it every night, naps in it during he day, climbs all over it, he'll climb in it head first on his stomach, he'll climb up his cage bars and throw his head back and climb in his hut on his back, sometimes I peek in there and he's crashed out sound asleep, laying on his side., sometimes he just peeks out around the side...too cute!

I was thinking of getting each of our tiels one...but I just don't think they'd appreciate it as much as our Conure does. Maybe...but I dunno, our tiels aren't cuddly like him.

But a word of caution, one of our members recently lost her conure in one of these happy hut type tents...I'm not sure if it's exactly like happy hut or not, but apparently there was some fraying and he got tangled up in it.

So I dilligently keep checking Franklin's Happy Hut for any fraying and wear that could be dangerous to him. I think that post was RIP Sunny...but I'm not positive, it was posted within the last couple weeks.

Take care,

Toni

I look in the rodent and cat section of the pet store for toys if I can't find what I want in the bird section. Amazon is amazing too. Huge selection of toys and stuff.

It was a happy hut that killed Sunny and it made me think twice before getting one. I'm going to keep an eye on Pi's and if it shows any wear whatsoever its getting replaced. My Mom told me that now that she's seen one, she can make replacements as they're needed.
