Hey guys, just thought I’d ask you all for any Conure-ific tips and tricks for my new little Sun, Yoda. He is 13 weeks old and we picked him up nearly 1 week ago.

Naturally I had every intention to ease him in comfortably and gently to our purely fid family, however, he proved immediately that he could easily cope with immesion into the craze of our daily grind- including one of our border collies whose career has developed into sitting/standing/lying/eating/sleeping- staring fulltime at the birds.

He is the perfect addition to our noisy, busy, fun-packed circus and although he does need his baby sleeps throughout the day, he is just oozing confidence.
Cudos, to his handraiser!

He shares the bird room with Yoshi (4 bed house with only Adam and I- of course they would have their own room ;), our 4 year old ratbag Quaker where they have their own spacious cages. And they have their 'living-room' playgym for while Adam and I are home which is two massive old grapevine stands decorated with birdy buckets, ladders swings and toys.

Anyway, we bought him from a petshop (I know ) but he had only been there for a week when we found him, and so was entirely habit free <3 He had never seen basically everything, which he is now encountering at home including fruit and veg, showers! and pellets.

He loves his pellets, so switching him over from seeds was no issue, and he is learning lots of behaviours (hmmmmm) from Yosh including that apple is just the best thing ever invented.
He had his first shower this morning also, and needed no encouragement to jump down onto my head and under the stream. Yoshi was most put out that Yoda beat him to it!

I'll try to get some pictures up when I get home too.

Constructive criticism and advice is ALWAYS welcome so fire away. Yoda is my first conure- and thus far, a delight to live with.

My GCC Moxie has taken to "shooting" the border collie when he herds the cats. Tag doesn't care much about the bird but all cats MUST remain in the same room. :D Congrats on your new confident guy, just don't be surprised if the personality changes a bit over the next week or two as he settles in.

It is not very often you can find such a well adjusted bird in a pet store. It sounds like you are doing a fantastic job with a very lovable bird. My GCC prefers to jump in a bowl of water. I have a small perch on suction cups and I can put it anywhere, like the shower. If you go to the thread with vids you may see him - Cricket. I think it is a good idea to teach the bird to eat out of a spoon. Also to touch their feet and around the beak often to get them used to being touched.
